Bible Story: God Tells His People Who He Is (Exodus 34) | Kids on the Move chords
Start Jamming...
This is the story of how God told everybody who he is and what he's all about.
Wait, don't we already know that?
True, yeah, we know that.
But there [D] was a time, a long time ago, when people didn't know as much about God as we do today.
When?
Like a hundred years ago?
Nope, even farther back.
A thousand years ago?
Even [G] farther.
A million [B] gazillion bajillion years?
[A] Okay, [B] not quite [D] that far.
Here, I'll just show you.
[G] A few thousand years ago, [B] across the world, right [A] about [B] here, there [D] lived a group of people called [G] the Israelites.
Yeah, [Bm] I've heard of those guys.
They were [A] like a big deal in [Bm] the Bible, right?
[D] They were God's chosen people, set [G] apart for a very [Bm] special purpose.
Oh man, they [A] sound [Bm] awesome!
Well, [D] they weren't always doing great, but God still took care of them and called them to be his special chosen people.
When our story picks up, the Israelites had just gone through a big change.
They were living as slaves in the land of Egypt for a long [G] time, but God rescued [Bm] them using a leader named [A] Moses.
[Bm] Hey, I recognize [D] that name!
He liked part of the [G] Red Sea so they could walk through and escape [Bm] from Pharaoh.
You got it!
[A] So after [Bm] Moses leads [D] the Israelites out of Egypt, [G] they kind of post up in the wilderness.
[Bm] God will eventually [A] lead them to a [Bm] super duper [D] awesome place called [G] Promised Land, but they're not [Bm] quite there yet.
Okay, [A] so let me get this [Bm] straight.
The [D] Israelites are just chilling in [G] the desert, building [Bm] sandcastles, and getting sun [A] tans?
Not quite, my young [D] Padawan.
This is where our [G] story really picks up.
[Bm] You see, up to this point, [A] people didn't [Bm] actually know a [D] whole lot about God.
[G] There were special people that [Bm] God would talk to, but [D] there were lots and lots of [Bm] people that [D] didn't really know who God was,
what he [G] was like, what he loved, what he [Bm] hated, because God didn't really [A] talk to just [Bm] everybody back then.
[D] He only really talked to a few people.
Oh, it's like a big game of telephone, where God would talk to someone, then they would tell everybody else, and they would talk about it like that?
Actually, yeah, that's pretty close to how it would [G] work.
And as you can imagine, [Bm] the message would get a [A] little [B] misunderstood, or [D] it wouldn't go very far.
It [G] just wasn't great.
Makes [B] sense.
This one time, we were playing [A] telephone at school, [B] and the phrase [D] was,
I like cupcakes.
By [G] the end of the line, it turned [Bm] into, I have a frog face.
[A] [Bm] Wow.
[D] Really sorry that happened to you.
But [G] you're right.
It was too easy [Bm] for people to get mixed up about who [A] God is, [B] and that's [D] definitely something you don't want to get mixed up.
So what happened?
Well, first, Moses wanted to know God better and [G] to have more favor with God.
He said, God, I want to know you more.
Teach me your ways.
[D] And that's exactly what happened.
So God taught him in a [A] classroom?
Kind of like mine?
Not quite.
This [G] was in the desert, like 3,000 years ago, remember?
Right.
My bad.
Okay, so what happened?
Something [D] absolutely amazing.
A cloud came down from heaven, and the Lord himself [G] appeared in front of Moses.
Then the Lord spoke and told Moses exactly [E] who he is and what [D] he's all about.
This verse in Exodus chapter 34 [A] says,
[G]
[A]
[D]
[G] [B]
[A] [Bm] [D]
[G] Whoa.
[B] What did Moses do?
[A] He did [Bm] just about the [D] only thing he could do.
He [G] bowed down and [Bm] worshipped God.
This was so [A] amazing because [Bm] after God told [D] Moses who he is and how to [G] follow him, Moses was [Bm] able to teach the Israelites [A] exactly what he [Bm] heard.
Hey, [D] that's pretty cool.
So the whole [G] plain telephone thing, that [Bm] was over?
Exactly.
[A] [Bm] Now the [D] Israelites know who God [G] is straight [B] from the source.
The end.
[D]
