[F#m]
Well here I am with the King of Country at the Castle Blaney Fair Day today.
So tell
us a little bit about [G]
the original fair days that you remember in Castle Blaney streets here Tom.
Well first of all I'd like to welcome you all here to Castle Blaney and the fair day
was a lot different then.
There wouldn't maybe be as many people as you see here the
day but [B] there'd be a lot of business done [F] like there'd be different things being sold
and bought and [A#] cattle and sheep and [F#] turkeys and you know all that sort of stuff [D] livestock
and horses and but [F#] it's it is a lot [F#] changed like but when you look at this here today
it's great to see that people have an awful lot of memories from back years and they're
bringing all the old machinery and all [D] sorts of stuff that was used back through the [E] years
and they're bringing it out and shining it up and that and it's lovely to see it here.
It's great to see it.
I really enjoy it.
Does it bring back many memories for yourself?
Ah it does surely you know.
It [F] brings back memories like that [B] the bit of a difference
would be that [G#] in the olden days you'd get men to be [F] buying and selling on the streets
you know and there'd be hands clapping and that sort of thing and there'd be an odd [B]
maybe
the odd drinking between hands and maybe you could get a [Em]
black eye as well in them days.
Were you involved in a few riots in your day?
Is that what you're trying to tell me?
I was too young to get involved in them.
Too young to be getting black eyes or anything?
No that's good to hear.
[B] So how do you think the Castle Blaney Fair today cracks up to what it was like when you were young?
I think [Em] it's great here today.
I really enjoyed this today and see all the old machinery and
a lot of it you know back walking.
You know there's no point in looking at machinery if
it's not walking and that.
Exactly yeah.
All the old [E] machinery is walking here today and it's lovely to see it.
Trash and corn
and even stone breaker here and an awful lot of things going on and I remember them
all for real from way back years ago.
[Bm] And what do you think of everybody dressing up today and taking part?
Do you like [B] that?
I love that yeah.
Great and [B] you've your cap on you and all and [Bm] ready for the day.
I try to get tidied up the best I could for the day.
Everybody wears their Sunday best I think.
[E] Yeah well your Sunday [B] best from my era would be all the old clothes you could find now
you know which was the Sunday best way back then.
That's it.
And that you know and it's great and I hope that it carries on for many years.
I know it is great to have it as a tradition for people to [E] remember the old times like
yourselves coming to see it today.
I know you meet a lot of people [Bm] here today and there's smiles on their faces you know
because they remember an awful lot of things from way back them times.
And this being your home town now and where probably the king country you found your feet
I suppose in the [B] country scene.
How has it been for you over the years in the country
scene I suppose?
[E]
It has been good to us.
I always say the music has been very good to us as a band and me
as a singer and that.
We got a lot of enjoyment out of it and it worked well for us you know.
We started just a very small group and that and we walked away and played away and we
didn't pass no remarks and people started to enjoy us and come to see us.
Down through the years it built up.
I hope we brought a lot of happiness [A#] and [Bm] we got a lot of happiness out of it as well.
Exactly.
And what has been the highlight over the years of singing and performing and being
passionate about your home town of Castle Blaney.
What has been the highlight for you?
[E] Well [B] the highlights of my career would have been in Round Road Park in London.
We [F#] played to [Em] 82,000 people and [C#] it was something that I never forgot you know.
[B] I would say.
It was lovely and we travelled a lot to England and the Galty Moor and all those places.
Around home here, the people I suppose I have to say that the people got us going around
here because they came to see us in the small dance halls and that sort of thing.
And that's what brought us on and on you know.
Exactly.
There's no place like home as they say.
Well that's for sure and certain.
That's it.
Well I'm delighted to chat and I hope you enjoy the Castle Blaney Faire Day
and thank you for welcoming us here today.
Not at all.
My pleasure.
Thank you.
