[Fm] [F] Hey, what's up you [B] guys?
Marty Schwartz here with Marty Music and we're going to break down Just the Two of Us by
Bill Withers, one of my favorite artists of all time.
Anyway, I'm going to show you a real easy way to play it.
So if you're a beginner and you want to play and sing it, we're going to do that.
And then also I'll show you a couple little, you know, more intermediate voicings like
I did at the end there.
So I hope that helps you.
Also thanks for supporting Marty Music.
I appreciate you subscribing here, clicking that bell notification.
And if you're trying to get deeper into guitar, I've got bonus links in the description.
So let's get into it.
All right, I'm putting the capo on the first fret so it matches up with the recording.
[Gb] But they're all [Db] open chords and you know, you can play it without the capo and a half step lower.
This will match up to the recording.
So C major, then [C] B7.
So that's going to be second fret on the A with your middle finger.
First fret there, second fret on that G.
And when I say second fret, second fret up from the capo.
And if you can get your pinky on that second fret high E, that's a nice B7 for you.
So you have C major, [Db]
B7, [C]
then [Fm] E minor.
Then we're going to play D minor to G [Ebm] back [Ab]
[Db] [Ebm] to C.
So D minor and then a G chord.
[Ab] And I'm grabbing [N] with the ring finger, middle finger and pinky because it's going to immediately
go to C.
And so the hand positioning makes that [Ebm] easier than [Db] which I see people do, you know.
It's always good to work on both voicings of that G.
All right, so C, [C] B7, E [Fm] minor, and then D minor, [Ebm] G, [Ab] C [Db] again, B7 [C] again, and then E [Fm] minor for longer.
[Db] [C]
[Fm]
[Ebm] [Ab] [Db]
[C] [Fm]
[C] [Ab] [Fm]
[Ab] [Db] [C]
[F] [Fm]
[Db] [C] [Fm]
[Ab] [Db]
[C] [Fm]
[Abm] [Db] [C]
[Fm] [Eb] [Ab] [Db]
[C] [Fm]
[Gb]
Up chuck [E] a boogie to up chuck a boogie [Db] boogie.
[C]
[Fm] [Ebm]
[Ab] [Eb] So notice that D [F] minor, G, C, and yeah, I played it that way once and the G that way once.
You know, there's just different ways to play the [Db] same thing.
[N] And so a couple ways to spice it up, you could play C major 7, which is that C major with
the index [Db] off.
[C] It just adds [Db] a little different [Fm] flavor.
[C]
[Fm] [C] And so the bass player's [Db] mostly going like.
[C] [F]
[C] And so [E] that note, [F] that note right there, [N] the first fret of the D [C] is in that B7 chord.
So you could emphasize that for a little, add a [Fm] little feeling of a bass moving, right?
Like see [C]
that?
I just [Db] picked it out.
[Ab] [C]
[Eb] [Db]
[C] [E] [Fm]
[B] And so another thing that happens just on the [N] chorus part would be more something like
[Fm] this,
[C] [Em] [Ab]
[Db] [C] [Fm]
which would be a different flavor.
I'm going to show you that without the capo on it, [F] just because if you're a more advanced
player, but so if you're a beginner and you'd love to try playing and singing the song,
it's really not too hard.
[Db]
C, [C] B7, [Fm] E minor, [Ebm] E minor, [Ab] G, [Db] C,
[C] B7, [Fm] E minor.
Starts over.
Dun, [C] dun, dun, dun, dun, [Fm] dun, dun, dun, [Ebm] dun, dun, [Db] dun, dun, [C] dun, [Ab] dun, dun, dun, dun, dun,
dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun.
Just [Cm] you and I.
[N]
Hit it, mini me.
Okay, so here's another thing.
Forget the capo, just think of it as standard tuning.
you [E] know you have C [Db] sharp major 7 to [C] C7 to [F] F minor 7 you could [Ab] do then down a
whole step for that we'll call it E [Gb] flat minor A [Ab] flat 7 D [G]
or D [Db] flat major 7
[C] C7 F
[Fm] minor okay and [C] [Ab]
[Ebm] [Fm] [C]
[Fm] then so [C] [Em]
[Ab] [Db] [C]
[Fm] I'm doing [Db]
C sharp major [C] 7 C7
[Fm] F minor [Em] half step [Bbm] down
another half step [Ab] down a flat 7 [Db] to D flat major [C] 7 C7 F minor [F] [N] now if you go
back with the capo [Ab]
[C]
[Eb] [Ab] [Db] [C]
[Fm] all that you know if you're thinking of this is E now you'd
have that E minor pentatonic
[B] [C]
[Fm] [Eb] [Db]
[C] [Fm]
[Bb] [Db] [Ab]
[C]
[Ab] [Eb]
[Db] [F]
[Fm] [Db]
[Ab] [C] [E]
[Fm] [Eb] [Db]
[C] [Fm]
[F] [Eb] [Ab]
[Fm]
[C]
[Fm] all right I hope you guys enjoyed the lesson once again thanks for hanging out
