I mean this is a, this kind of sort of like out and out racist [B] Islamophobia is not, please
doesn't only exist on the loopy fringes [Db] down in Florida.
We have it right across Europe as well.
It's a real problem for [Ab] that community and not just for [Db] that community [C] because you know
the Islamophobic [Db] cannot tell the difference [Eb] between a Muslim, a Hindu, a Mexican, anybody
who [C] looks a slight, a slightly different colour.
You know we're [C] talking about, we are talking about a return to the politics [Eb] of bigotry
and the very edge of fascism.
I mean fascism is an idea which [Ab] says that all of the problems in society [Eb] are to the
fault of this single group of people in society and [E] we are very much in danger, that we need
to be very, very careful about that, about [C] seeing [Eb] people and in our minds identifying
[D] them with evil [Bbm] extremists who are doing terrible, terrible [Cm] things around the world.
We're all prone to it.
We're all capable of [Fm] doing it.
I was on the subway in [Eb] London a couple of months ago and um, [Db] quietly moving my foot
[Gb] as people, all of a sudden an [E] American got on.
[D] [Eb] How do we know?
His teeth were so white.
He had the whitest [Db] teeth that [G] anyone I've ever [F] seen.
It had to be.
There's no way he was in English or [G] Scottish.
Or Irish [F] or Welsh or even European.
He was [Bb] definitely.
And what do we all know about Americans?
What do all of us know about, it went [Eb] through everybody's minds immediately.
Americans [Bb] always carry [E] guns.
That's what the entire [F] culture is about.
There are more guns in America than there are people.
They must [E] be armed.
He sat [N] there nervously hiding behind that newspaper.
Generally [Bb] not to look at him.
He sat there, his teeth sparkling.
And we moved to reach inside, his [B] jacket, my [Bb] bum went like that.
I'm sorry, I did this, this is it.
He was going to go mad and he pulled [B] out a great big [Eb] electric toothbrush.
[E] They polished his teeth as if to say, you English [Ab] people, you're bad.
[N]
We rule the world.
[G]
[Eb] It's so bad in London now, a lot of Americans [Cm] are taking away a little tiny [Ab] badge for the Canadian flag.
[G] But they have [Eb] bad teeth as well, so they're not going to work.
[B] [Eb] But it's that kind of group mentality that [C] damns a [Bb] certain kind of people.
And you think to yourself, yeah, but [F] that stuff could never happen here.
If you have any friends who are Japanese Americans, ask them about what happened [Bm] in 1941.

[D] [Bm] [B] [D]
[E] I remember when I came down that day, [A] waiting to be [D] saved in the [E]
[A] Philippines.
[A] [E] You wait [D]
forever [E] for your [D] release.
[Bm] Now [E] I [D] believe to be [E] here [G] is right.
[A] [Bm] But I have to [D] say that [Bm] I'm scared [D] to.
[A] Crouching in [D] school [E] with a mouth [G] full of sand.
[D]
[Bm] What [D] comes first, [G] a fish [D] or a man.
Keep a [Gbm] ghostland in ice, [G] coming up over [D] the hill.
[Gb] Catching us [Gbm] by surprise, it's time [G] to kill or to be [A] killed.
[E] [D] Over here, [G] over there, [D] it's the same [G] everywhere.
A boy [Gb] cries out for his mom [D] before [E] he dies for his [D] home.
[Bm] [A] All my [D] life, [E] I wanted to [G] be as [Bm]
clever [D] and strong as my [B] best [D] friend Lee.
[Bm] We [A] grew up [D] together, [Bm] along [E] half [G] the way.
He [Bm]
was [D] Japanese, born in [Bm] the [A] U.S [D].A.
[Bm] Tommy [E] was fighting the [D] Chinese [Bm] along the [A] river's edge.
[D]
[Bm] [B] Me and [D] Lee, we wanted to do the same.
Then [A] they bombed Pearl [D] Harbor, every [Bm] break [G] of day.
[D] I was [A] heading for [D] these islands and he was hauling me.
[Gb] We simply swam in [Gbm] ice, [G] as good as he is [D] guilty.
[Gbm]
[G] [A]
[D] Over here, over there, it's the same [G] everywhere.
[Bm] A boy cries [A] out for his mom [E] before [Bm] he dies for [D] his home.
[Bm] [E] I never [D] got home, [B] my mom was dead.
My platoon [A] was never saved, [D] [Bm] that little [D] foxhole [Gb] became my [D] island grave.
Lee got out of jail, [Bm] for everything [D] he'd made.
[Bm] So he ended [Dbm] his own life, to [Bm] lose that [D] ball and chain.
He [Gb] said, with his [Db] sweaty eyes, [G] can you forgive a man found [D] dead?
He [Db] said, oh Mr.
Friendly [Gb] Ghost, [G] can you catch water in [A] an egg?
[Gbm] [D] Over here, [G]
over there, [D] it's the same [G] everywhere.
A [Bm] boy [A] cries out for his [G] mom [Bm] before he [D] dies for his home.
A boy [E] cries out [G] for his mom [E] before he dies [D] for his home.
