[E] This is Blackie [Fm] Lawless and you're visiting the set of The Crimson Idol.
[D#] We're [Dm] here doing preliminary photos for the album cover, but this is also the set for the videos as well.
[N] This is the story of Jonathan Steele.
He's a boy that grows up in a lower middle class family.
He has one older brother, Michael.
Michael is the apple of the parents' eye.
And Jonathan is, for all intents and purposes, the invisible boy.
So at the age of 16, Jonathan sets off for the big city to seek his fame and fortune.
And I must preface this by saying that Jonathan is a musician.
He has a goal.
He wants to be one of the biggest things that the rock world has ever seen.
So he goes to this imaginary place called the Arena of Pleasure, which could be New York, London, L.A.
And there he struggles for a couple of years and he meets this delightful man named Chainsaw Charlie.
And Charlie is the president of one of the biggest record companies in show business.
Charlie introduces him to a world that he has never known.
Charlie found that he was a lawyer for 25 years in the music industry
and he found that he could up-foot over people quicker in the music industry than he ever could in a court of law.
During the course of the album, he runs across a gypsy woman, hence the setup that we have here.
She tells his fortune to him, past, present and future.
And the underlining message of this whole record is told in the story,
which is basically, be careful what you wish for because it may come true.
Jonathan goes on, he succeeds, he becomes one of the biggest things the world has ever seen,
but it does not give him what he wants.
And ultimately, he assumes that he will go out with a bang.
And in the finale, which is called The Great Misconceptions of Me,
there's a line he goes,
With these six strings I make a noose, to take my life it's time to choose.
The headlines will read of my demise, I am the rock and roll suicide.
He takes the six strings off of the guitar, he winds them together and makes a noose
and hangs himself right in front of the audience.
And I thought that it was the ultimate [D#] rock and roll suicide
because the instrument that was [E] once the instrument of his passion
has now become the instrument of his demise.
[Cm] Be careful what you wish for, it may come [Dm] true.
