_ _ _ _ [C] _ _ _ [G] _
_ _ [D] _ _ _ [G] _ _ _
_ [C] _ _ _ [B] _ _ [G] _ _
_ _ _ _ [D] Okay in this lesson we're gonna be [Bb] learning some bluegrass [Ab] style for ukulele gotten some requests for this
So we're [B] gonna start with the basics.
We're gonna start with a basic
_ _ strum _
For bluegrass and a basic chord progression and we're also going to talk about what a G run is _
So let's start [G] with the basic
_ _ _ [Bb] _
Strum so this is [Em] called a bass chop [Ab] strum
And we're gonna be using the key of G so [F] we're gonna be using G [B] C and D
That's a 1 [Bb] 4 5 chord progression _
And that's pretty [G] common in bluegrass _ and you're gonna do thumb on the bass note
Or [Gb] the the lower [G] note
_ Or the string closest to you
_ _ And then you're gonna hit the other strings
_ Or all the strings so _ _ _ _ it's _ _ like that on the G _ _
_ _ Then we go to the C.
You're gonna pluck the you can [Ab] try to hit the root notes, so
_ Let's see it be [Ab] the open C string
[Cm] _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ Then go back [G] to G _
_ _ _ _ Then we go to D, [Bb]
and I'm just gonna play
I'm gonna worry about the G string here
[Gm] I'm gonna pick [Bm] the C string as my lobe [D] note
_ _ _ _ Then go [G] back to G
_ _ _ _ [C] C _
_ _ [G] then G
[D] _ D
[G] G
_ _ _ _ So it's like an 8 bar pattern
_ _ _ [C] _ _
_ _ [G] _ _ _ _ _ [D] _
_ _ [G] _ _ _ _ [C] _ _
_ _ [G] _ _ [D] _ _ [G] _ _
_ _ That would be the pattern okay, and that's slow so one more time
_ _ _ _ _ _ [Cm]
C
_ _ _ [G] G bass chop bass chop [D] D _ _
_ _ [G] G
_ bass chop [C] C
_ _ _ _ [G] G
[Bm] _ D
[G] _ G _ _
_ That's one time through the whole chord progression when we play it fast
It [B] sounds a little bit more like [G] bluegrass _
_ [C] _ _ _ [G] _ _ _ [D] _
_ _ [G] _ _ _ [C] _ _ _
[G] _ _ _ _ _ _ [N] _ _
_ _ [Bb] So
_ That's your basic strum the bass chop strum [Ab] and a basic [G] chord progression
That might you might hear in [Gb] bluegrass, okay?
_ Now let's talk [Bb] about the G run the G run is the little lick I played in the intro at the very end
And sometimes this lick [B] is used almost like a turnaround in the blues
So it's just kind of at the end of the progression to start you [Gb] off again
_ [Bb] But we're gonna use it just at the end for now and a G run
This is a pretty standard one, but they can be different.
You know different [G] guys play different little licks and that [Gm] in that
_ [B]
part of the chord [G] progression
_ _ [B] so the lick is
[G] _ Open G, [E] _ _ _
_ _ [Em] _ _ _ _ and then two three four and you can do hammer-ons [Ab] or you can pick them all all [A] _
[Bb] _ I like to [Gm] do hammer-ons there
_ [E] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ [Bb] Then you come down here and grab the two on the C string
_ _ _ two two four two [E] two and _ _ _ [Gm] _
_ _ _ [B] _ _ _ [Gm] _ _
then you hit the three _ on the
E-string _ _ _ _ [B] _ _ _
_ _ [B] _ there you could do a hammer-on and pull off if [E] you like _ _ _ _
_ [Cm] _ _ and [B] then it ends
[G] _
[D] _ _ _ [G] DG
[E] _ _ _
_ _ [G] _ Like that
Okay.
Now where that would come in is on the last [E] two bars of the progression.
[Gb] So it'd be
_ [G] _
_ _ _ [C] _ _ _ _ [G] _
_ _ _ _ [D] _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [C] C right after the second C
_ _ [G] _ _ _ _ _
Like that _ _ so _ _
_ [Cm] _ _ _ [G] _ _ _ _
[D] _ _ _ [G] _ _ _ [C] _ _
_ _ _ [E] _ _ _ _ [G] _
Just like that [Bb] sounds nice that definitely [G] sounds bluegrass
[B] _ _ _ [Gm] _ _ _ [G] _
_ _ more time
[Bb] _ _ _
_ [Gm] _ _ _ _ [G] _ _ _
_ _ _ Okay, [B] so there's kind of three
_ _ Concepts to work on with the bluegrass get that down and we'll do some
_ we'll [F] just keep kind of adding to that as we go, but [Ab] that that should give you a good start to
Kind of bluegrass style for ukulele.
So there you [G] have it
_ _ [C] _ _ _ [G] _ _ _ [D] _ _ [G] _
_ _ [C] _ _ _ _ _ [G] _
_ _ _ _ _ _ [N] _ _
