Hey everyone and welcome back to Swift Guitar Lessons.
Today, I'm very happy to be home in Philadelphia,
getting back into my routine of creating daily lessons.
So I'm gonna be bringing you [Am] a mini lesson,
[B] a follow up to my previous lesson
on a riffy blues rock turnaround in the key of E.
[Gb] This time, I'm gonna be showing you
how to transpose it to the key of A.
[Abm] I got all the tabs available [B] for you,
as always, at patreon.com slash swift lessons.
If you become a member there,
you can gain access to tons of extra lessons,
extra resources for all my [A] popular videos.
Now, let's get started with a quick demonstration.
[Ab] A one, two, three, [E] four.
[D] [A]
Okay, getting [Ebm] started with this mini lesson,
just as in our previous session,
we're gonna talk about our 12 bar blues.
That way you know exactly where this technique goes
in the progression.
So our 12 bar blues in the key of A
is going to be a one, four, five [A] progression.
A seven, [D] D seven, and also [E] E seven.
Use your chord diagrams on the screen to guide you.
[A] And we're gonna structure this into a 12 bar.
Four measures, or 16 beats on the A seven chord.
[D] Two measures, or eight beats on the D seven chord.
Then go back [A] to the A seven chord
for two measures, or eight beats.
[B] We'll have one measure, or four beats on the [E] E seven.
One measure, [D] or four beats on the D seven.
And then we're gonna have the A [A] seven chord
for one and a half measures.
Then [E] on the last two beats, throw in that E seven chord.
So this is the five [F] chord.
This is the chord that tells the audience,
okay, it's time to turn back around,
start the whole progression over again.
And [A] it's over that final [E] A seven to E seven change
that our turnaround takes place.
[F] Okay, so for the more novice players out there,
I'm gonna roll through that 12 bar blues,
ask that you play along with me.
If you're a little bit more advanced,
and you wanna get right into the turnaround,
by all means, skip ahead.
All right, getting [A] started
with our A seven chord, fret it up.
One, two, [Fm] three, four, the [A] A seven.
Six, seven, eight, or one, two, three, four, five, six.
To the D seven, [D]
two measures.
And back to the A [A] seven, two measures.
All right, the [E] E seven, one measure.
[D] The D seven.
All right, [A] then the A seven.
This is where the turnaround goes.
E [E] seven, [A] and then the whole thing
would turn back around again and start over.
Okay, now breaking down that turnaround riff.
If you'd watched my previous lesson,
then you would have learned it in the [E] key of E.
[B] Now we're basically going to be dropping it down
to the floor one string.
So now it's [A] gonna sound like this.
[E] [Eb] [E]
So changing the strings and changing the chords.
So that [B] began with the A string journey.
[A] Okay, so that's our root and our key.
Then we have that same little hammer on section.
[G] All [Bb] right, five hammering up to the [G] seven on the D [A] string.
Seven, seven, then another hammer, then down to [G] five.
[A] So far you had.
[G]
All [E] right, then we're going to walk down the blue scale.
A string, seven, [Eb] six, [D] five, and then down to three.
[C] [Cm] All right, that's where we're gonna stop and practice
and learn how to [A] count.
One and two and a three [Eb] and a four and a.
One full measure there over an A seven chord.
[G] Okay, one more time, real [A] slow.
One and two and a three and a four [C] and a.
All right, then we're going to have
this last [A] little section.
[E]
[A] All right, one and [Eb] two and [E] a three and four.
Get into our E seven chord.
[A] So that was zero, zero on the A string.
[Db] Fourth fret, go and [D] measure.
Open [Eb] D, first fret of [E] the D string,
and then right to the E note on the second fret
of the D string, [E] walking up to our E seven [A] chord.
[E] [G] Okay, and I'm very careful with which fingers I [F] use
as I walk up into that E seven chord shape.
This is kind of the last thing
that I want to point out [A] technique wise.
[Db] [Eb] It's very unconventional to use your ring finger there
on the [Gb] first fret, but it's a necessary thing
if I want to [F] be able to comfortably get
into the E seven chord shape.
So use your ring finger, [E] first fret,
and then use that same finger and fret up the E seven chord
as you finish up the turnaround by hammering down
on the first [N] fret with that E seven chord fretted up.
Okay, playing through the entire turnaround now.
Again, this is transpiring over top [A] of the A seven.
Two, three, four, five, [E] six, and seven.
That E seven chord coming in for the last two beats.
[Abm] Okay, so replacing that [Gb] chord change
with one, two, three, four, [A] and.
[Eb] [A] [D] [E]
All right, and if it's the end of the tune,
[Gb] you might want to throw in something a little [A] extra,
very sweet, hitting up that A 13 chord.
Middle finger, seventh fret [Gb] of the D string,
first finger on the sixth fret of the G string,
and the ring finger on the seventh fret of the B,
strumming from the A string down.
[A] [Dbm] [B] All right, everyone, thanks so much
