There was no greater honor for Red Foley, and there's no greater honor for any country music performer than to be named to the Hall of Fame.
[B] And tonight, another performer is going to be so honored.
And here as [F] spokesman for the Hall of Fame selection committee are two men who are in the Hall of Fame themselves.
[Gb] It's a distinct pleasure to introduce the [Db] elder statesman of country music, [G] joined by the undisputed king of country music, text reader Enroy Acom.
[C] [F]
[C]
[G] [C] [Dm] [G] [C]
[F] [Gb] [C] [N]
Thank you very much.
[Bb] [Abm] We would like first to [B] congratulate all of the finalists.
I think there were five of them.
[N]
Thank you very much.
Both Roy and I know what an honor it is to be named to the Country Music Hall of Fame.
We believe quite honestly that we could have received no greater reward.
Our star came from [B] humble beginnings and grew to become what one writer has called a sort of folk hero,
[A] but a reachable hero who gave the [F] people in the audience something to live up to and look up to.
The music of this Hall of Fame nominee reflects a broad knowledge of the American scene,
the musical scene that is, [Db] from Negro country blues to more [F] sophisticated urban tunes.
That music was first recorded for the old OK label by recording fine air Mr.
Art Satterday.
[N] And each new record quickly had the label of a hit tagged to it.
To get more specific, this man always dressed conservatively, although maybe [F] the boots and the cowboy [N] hats were $100 items.
His only theme went something like this.
I'm not going to sing.
Howdy, everybody from near and far.
You want to know just who we are?
We're the Texas Playboys from the Lone Star.
[D]
[G] [E] Well, I suppose you [Bm] know, [A] he is a fellow Texan.
He [D] was the innovator of Western swing.
Ladies and gentlemen, I am pleased to announce the [F] newest member of the [D] Country Music [G] Hall of Fame, the [E] Texas Playboys, [Bm] [A] Bob Wilkes.

[N] [G] Friends, I don't believe this.
[B] No wonder Mr.
Johnson had been insisting for eight [F] months I come with him down here.
Not that I didn't want to.
I just wasn't able.
Finally, he says, you [N] go in there, I'll pay you way.
So he's paid my way and I'm here.
Thanks to you.
Words can't express how happy I am.
That's it.
The 1968 stars of country music [B] have been given their honors.
[D] It's been a great thrill to be here.
And until we meet again, may the good [A] Lord take a liking to you.
God bless you.

1968, when the winners of the Country Music Association Awards were [Bb] officially announced.
Price Waterhouse supervised the [C] balloting for all awards except the Hall of Fame Award.
[Eb] The winner of the Hall of Fame Award was [Dm] selected by a group of 136 [Gm] electors associated [Bb] with country [C] music and balloting was supervised by Ernst [D] & Ernst.
[Bb] Advanced [Bb] information as to winners [A] was furnished to [Dm] executives of [G] Country Music Association and production [C] personnel for production purposes and to trade publications [Dm] for [Gm] publicity purposes.
[C] [G] Bob Hope goes to college with O.J. Simpson, the number one college football star, and other guest stars including John Wayne and Julius Proust.
