[G] Hello.
Okay, we're going to go over boil them cabbage down today.
So if you go to your tab page and get your boil them cabbage down one, that's what we're
going to do here.
This has three chords in it.
It's got G, [C] C, [A] and D7.
[Dm]
[G] You should already be familiar with all three of those chords.
If not, then you should go watch the first two chords video and the C chord video and
practice the exercises that go with it.
So first I'm going to play through the song for you and I'll sing a little bit of it so
you know where I'm at.
But as always, I'm going to start out with an intro.
So I'm going to do two measures, which is four beats each measure.
So that's eight beats of G, our first chord, and then I'll start the song.
And then once I stop, I'll go through and break it down for you what I was doing.
I'm going to be alternating back and forth between my third [D] and my fourth string, [Dm] and
that's going to break up the song and break up the chords and make it sound really good.
So here we go.
[G]
Pour them cabbage [C] down, [G]
past that [D] open ground.
[G]
The only song that [C] I could [G] sing, pour [C] them [G] cabbage down.
Went up on [C] a mountain, [G]
just to give my [D] home a glow.
[G]
Yonder comes [C] my true love, [G] say yonder [Am] [G] comes my bow.
[C] [G]
[Am] [Bm]
[C] [G]
[Dm] [G]
Possum in [C] the [G] cemetery, bracken on the [D] ground.
[G] Bracken says you [C] son of a [G] gun, shake [D] some [G] timbers down.
Pour them [C] cabbage down, [G] past that open [D] ground.
[G] The only song [C] that I could sing [G] is [F] pour them [G] cabbage down.
Okay, now what I did there was I played the chord version while I'm singing the verses
and the chorus, and then as an instrumental break, I played a simple melody note version.
Now in video number two for pour them cabbage down, I'll go over every step of that melody note version.
While you're practicing with this video, go ahead and keep playing your alternating third
and fourth, the chorded version, while I'm playing that melody note version, and you'll
be playing along with me.
It'll be really fun.
And when I'm transitioning between the chords, especially the D7 chord, when I hit my third
string to turn, to transition into [Dm] my D7, I'm doing a hammer on of both fingers, like
we covered in Aunt Rhody.
So [C] that makes for an interesting sound, [F] and it'll help.
If you were able to keep up with that first version, that's wonderful.
If I didn't go into it in depth enough for you, what I'm going to do now is I'm going
to count out each beat as I'm playing.
So I'm going to be going one, two, three, four, as I'm playing, all the way through
the song, okay?
I'm going to do my first two measures of my intro chord, [G] which is G, and it'll sound like
this.
One, two, three, four, one, two, three, four.
That was eight beats, okay?
So I'll do my intro.
I'm not going to count the intro this time, so you'll know where the song starts, okay?
So this will be the whole song one time through, okay?
One, two, three, four, [C] one, two, three, [G] four.
One, two, three, four, [D] one, two, three, [G] four.
One, two, three, four, [C] one, two, three, [G] four.
One, [D] two, three, [G] four, one, two, three, four.
Okay?
And that was the whole song, one time through.
So you may want to just go back to this part if you want to hear the 1, 2, 3, 4s.
Go back to the beginning of this part and just do that over and over again while you're
playing along with me so you'll get your timing down because timing is essential.
1, 2, 3, 4.
1, 2, 3, 4.
[N] And another thing I'm doing is I'm tapping my foot.
You might hear it in some of the videos.
And this helps me keep my time.
[G]
So let me know what you think of that video, if that was good enough for you.
I can go more into depth with it, but I'm betting that if you've watched everything
so far, you're doing really good and you're able to keep up with at least one of these
two versions that I've put on here.
And stay tuned for video number two.
It's going to have the melody note version
