[Ab] For me, it's always about finding the right balance.
I'm always looking for new great songs to add to [Gb] the show and get in the studio and put them down and have some fun seeing how we can [Db] rearrange them or come up with our own version and then get out on the road.
So the big motivation for [B] me is just to be able to have new songs to play for ourselves and our fans.
[G] [Gbm] [Abm]
[B] [Em] Every time I go in and make another record, I have a [B] different agenda that I don't even know what it is until I hear a song and I go, that feels right, right about now.
[Ab] I chose [Bb] Digging Deep as a title [N] because of a couple of different things.
I lifted it from the first song on the record, Unintended Consequence of Love, but it really has to do [Gb] with the [B] particular grooves that we did and that I wanted to do [Gb] on this record.
This [B] band just slays.
We've been playing together for so many years that we really dig in and that's where that came from.
And then I also, it's kind of a double entendre because I'm [G] also alluding [Bm] to all the [Gb] ballads I think are digging very deep, at least for [G] me personally, and I thought it was kind of a cool way of getting [G] both.
[A] [G] All the nuggets [C] of gold on [D] my tongue, [G] pearls of wisdom [C] coming in [E] waves.
[Bm] How cruel is [C] it that fate has [D] to find me all alone [G] with something [A] to say?
[Dm] All alone [G] with something [C] to say.
[F] [A] [Bm]
[C] [A] This is my 20th [B] album so I don't really want to [C] repeat myself when I've covered so many [A] topics of love and [Bm] betrayal and longing and [Am] so many different kinds of [D] musical grooves in those 19 records that [B] to come up with something fresh and new for me and the [E] fans is really what the challenge [Cm] is and probably why I [Bb] sat down and actually wrote for this record was because nobody knows what's [G] missing in my show better than [N] me.
You know what's really great about having a band that's played together like we [Bb] have for so many years, this band is so telepathic and so broad range, [Ab] we don't need to rehearse, we don't [Eb] need to talk about it, [Db] everybody's surprising each other and I think [Ebm] we have such an incredible chemistry.
It's [Ebm] totally unique individuals that come with a whole different set of skill [Ab] sets each and I [Ebm] just love them as people and we have a blast [Eb] in the studio and I think it shows.
