[Abm] There's almost no festival where you would show up to a time slot like that
with a [B] completely full and seated [Eb] audience.
Yeah, people listen to the [Em] words here.
Barbara Jean and [A] Annie were just able to hop in on our set [Ab] today in a [B] very
seamless, fun way and this festival [Abm] definitely seems to thrive on that [E] kind of thing.
We sort of realized that we all were like hungry to play around with traditional music.
Is that true?
Yeah.
And we found that when we do it [G] together it feels very [A] natural [G] [B] and
Personal.
Yeah.
[E] Connected to it.
We started making some music together and then our very first [B] gig was at the Eau Claire Festival in Wisconsin
[E] and they gave us a gig when we didn't even have a band name or any songs.
So [Bm] it was really sweet [B] of them and we had an occasion to rise to and we [E] worked up a set.
And then we took part in this residency in [A] Berlin called the People Residency
which is also [E] curated in part by Justin Vernon and Aaron [D] Dessner.
And that was where we started [A] to make recordings and then [G] we finished that record in [E] Woodstock last year.
So we're [D] starting to play some shows.
We haven't played that [A] many and we're excited to put this record [A] out in January.
I [G] would say it's very reimagined.
It's [D] not [E] renaissance fair music or something.
Like when you say traditional music that could be Reenactment.
Yeah.
It's not a
Yeah.
We're not Civil War reenactors or something coming out.
I would say it's a
I wouldn't say a hyper modern Lend or [Gb] something like that
but fully modern like totally [Em] graspable with modern ears.
[E] I would say like whatever it takes for us to feel it.
You know what I mean?
I think some of the [E] songs are more of a straight reinterpretation
and some of them are like it feels like we co-wrote with the Chad.
It doesn't feel like a research project.
Like it's whatever makes us [D] feel it and the feelings are big [A] and the chords are open [G] and it feels
Whatever feels good.
You can also [E] let go of this music in a way because it's kind [D] of taken from we don't know who
[A] and it seems like it's kind of for everyone.
[G] Like real folk music for everyone.
