[N] Hi there, I'm Andy Hillier for Sound FX in Ormskirk and today I've got this Boss Nextone.
Now the big thing about this is it's got four different selectable power amp modes, which
are meant to recreate the sound of different valve power amps.
You've got two English type ones, you've got EL84s and EL34s and you've also got two American,
so 6V6 and 6L6.
So I thought, let's try it against the real valve amp equivalent.
So I'm going to play something really short and sweet, well maybe not sweet but real short,
through the Boss amp and then let's try it against the valve equivalent.
Now I've only got EL34 power, like valve amp and then 6L6, so we'll just jump between those
and see if it's got any kind of thing that sounds the same or sounds different.
So let's give it a go.
These are the amps I've got to test the Nextone's power circuits against.
So for the EL34s I've got this Laney GH30R.
I really love the sound of this amp.
This is a bit unfair but for the 6L6s I'm going to compare it against the Carl Rambler.
This is a hand-wide point-to-point amplifier.
This is my favourite amp, I love this amp.
It probably costs probably maybe five times the price of the Boss but we're going to [G] give
it a go, see what it sounds like.
So this is the Boss and this is EL34 mode.

And here's a real valve amp with EL34s.

Here's the [G] 6L6.
And here's a real valve amp with 6L6s in.

I have to say that it does a good job at recreating those kinds of sounds.
[N] It's a bit unfair on this amplifier because those real valve amplifiers are way more expensive
than this Boss.
But it does a great job at giving a similar kind of sound to those different amplifiers.
Unfortunately I haven't got an EL84 or a 6V6 amp to try it against.
But I really, really like the sound of this Boss Nextone, it sounds great.
I've been Andy Hillier.
