Hi, today I'm going to show you one of my new bowed lyres.
This is a Maple [D] and Spruce
one I've recently completed.
It has black horsehair strings tuned to D, G, G.
Okay,
I'm just going to [N] give a quick demonstration.
To play the lyre, this bowed lyre, this one
has a little step rest on it, which means you can rest it on your knee, like this.
And
we play a mixture of styles.
We play using our knuckles if we want to play the string
by itself, or we can insert our hand in between the two strings, use our fleshy pad and knuckles
on one side.
And the bow, if we play quite loosely, we can play all three strings at
once.
And if we tighten the bow just by pressing with our fingers slightly, we can [F#] play individual
notes, double strings.
