Start Jamming...
Hard Way Home, I felt that it had a country element to it.
And I really wanted to sort of get in touch with my roots,
so I asked my mother, who's a country singer,
to come to the studio with me for the day,
just to be an audience and a witness
to what I was trying to do
and to understand where I was trying to draw
that sort of, you know, redneck sensibility from.
And so she sat in the control room
and listened to me do the vocals,
and we kept the second take.
So I think she [C] was a big part of inspiring me
to sing that song.
[G] [Cm] [G]
[C]
[Am] [F] [G]
[C] Ooh
Sometimes I lose my faith in luck
I don't know what I want to [G] be when [Am] I grow up
[F] I'll just count the [G] rain
And wear the floor to the [C] board again
I wish I could find that soul to steal
I could be the engine, and [G] you could [Am] be the wheel
[F] And we could drive it [G] home
And never have to worry about [C] bein' [F] alone
Ooh, I [C] follow my [G] tracks, see all the times I [C] should've turned [F] back
Ooh, I've [C] worked [G] alone, but knowing me's to be on my [Am] own
Ooh, the things I've [G] known, looks like I'm taking the [C] hard way [Am] home
Ooh, the [F] seeds [G] I've sown, taking the hard way home
Taking [C] the hard way home
I never did learn how to follow rules
I never was good at [Am] sleeping while the moon was full
[F] I just let my [G] mind burn, wreck my mind while the [C] planet turns
Sometimes I wish I could start again
I try and do the right thing every [Am] now and then
[F] I step in the [G] light, that's what I do if I can [C] turn back [F] time
Ooh, I [C] follow my [G] tracks, see all the times I [C] should've turned [F] back
Ooh, [C] I've worked [G] alone, but knowing me's to be on my [Am] own
Ooh, the things I've [G] known, looks like I'm taking the hard way [Am] home
Ooh, the seeds [G] I've sown, taking the [C] hard way [G] home
Taking [C] the hard way home
I
[Am] [F] [G]
[C] tell you how I wanna live
Forget about the take, forget [Am] about the give
[F] I wanna leave this [G] town, fake my death and [C] never be [F] found
Ooh, I [C] follow my [G] tracks, see all the times I [C] should've turned [F] back
Ooh, [C] I've worked [G] alone, but knowing me's to be on [Am] my own
Ooh, the things [G] I've known, looks like I'm taking the hard [Am] way home
Ooh, [G] the seeds [G]
I've sown, taking the hard [C] way [G] home
Taking the hard [C] way home
I sometimes lose my faith in life
I don't know what I wanna be [G] when I [Am] grow up
[F] I just can't [G] break, wearing the floor through the board [C] again
I wish I could find a soul to steal
I could be the engine, you could [Am] be the wheel
[F] And when you're driving [G] home, you never have to worry [Am] about being alone
Ooh, [F] the things [G] I've known, looks like I'm taking the hard [Am] way home
Ooh, the seeds [G] I've sown, taking the hard [C] way home
[G] Taking [C] the hard [G] way home
Taking [C] the hard [G] way home
