Yeah, I guess it's been [D] almost a year since we [Bb] released our [Cm] Aster album.
[Gm] We've been able to visit some of the places [C] that we wrote the music [C] for,
or were inspired by the places, you know, we got to go back to them and [Gm] play the new sets,
which is a really cool thing.
[D] Sitting, just listening to them in the rehearsals, [Bb] it's [C] an amazing experience actually,
because [Cm]
you can see their [C] development.
This [Am] group, they just continue to develop.
[C] [Eb] [F]
[Gm] [C]
[Bb]
[Eb] It's always [Dm] great to be playing [C] in the part of Celtic Connections Festival.
It's a fantastic festival on [F] our doors.
[Gm] [Gm] [C]
It's great [Cm] that we've been afforded the opportunity [Bb] to do a concert.
[Eb] Celtic Connections [Dm] is an amazing [C] festival,
and they've given us [Cm] this wonderful opportunity to relive our album, or [Bb] remake our album.
We [Gm] have Olaf, [C] Luksangard Melva from Norway, [Gm] who played on the album,
Greg Lawson, who [Eb] produced the album.
We do have Pierre [Ab]-Luc Dupuy from [Eb] the Tomps-en [Bb]-Tomps,
so we're really very lucky to have him.
And he brings another [Bb] element that wasn't on the album, he's on [Eb] the muthi and the [F] accordion.
What I'm doing, it's playing harmonica, basically, and tapping the feet,
[Ab] because everybody knows that Québécois are good in that.
We love to say that we learn to tap the feet before to know how to walk.
So it's [Eb] a long, long, long story between my feet and me.
So I'm really, really glad to [Bb] introduce the feet [Cm] with the bare back.
But he brings [Bb] that tremendous [Eb] flavor of where he's from, you know.
That's maybe the thing that was most [F] exciting about [Bb] recording ASTER,
it [Eb] was exciting to think about who we would get involved,
[Bb] but actually when [Eb] we were doing it, it was just unbelievable [Ab] to get that taste [Bb] of their culture,
[Eb] what they brought.
I play [E] the Norwegian national instrument, the [Bb] hardonga fiddle.
I'm really happy [Ab] to be a part of this [Db] project.
The rehearsals [Eb] are going really [Ab] well.
[Bb] It's a good atmosphere, good [Db] energy.
[Eb] [Ab] [Bbm]
[Cm] One [Db]
[Eb] [Cm] [Ab]
[Db]
[Eb] [Ab] [Bb]
[Ab] of the most [F] important aspects of the album was Stuart Hamilton,
who engineered it at [Db] Castlesound Studios.
He brought [Eb] an amazing sound, and it was really easy to work with.
And himself and Greg totally brought the [F] whole music together
and brought the outside influences together.
So this is a great celebration [Ab] of that.
[Eb] We got to [Cm] perform the track Muriwai in New Zealand,
[Bb]
[Ab] and we got to perform that [Dm] with our [Cm] friend Horo Monohoro doing the haka live,
so [Ab] that's really exciting [Cm] and brings a new element to our show.
[Ab] And we toured Canada [Dm] last year, [C]
2016,
and we were able to [Eb] play the music [Bb] that was inspired [C] on our travels through Quebec.
We were able to play that in [Eb] Quebec, and that was, again, really [Bb] exciting.
We certainly [Ab] didn't expect to [Ab] get [Eb] the awards that we got just in December.
[Ab] We received the [Gm] Folk Band of the Year,
and we [Ab] also got the Album of [Bb] the Year at the [Cm] Natraz, the [Fm] Scottish Folk Music [F] Awards.
We put a lot of energy, a lot of emotion into making the CD.
[Cm] To have it recognized is amazing.
[C] [F]
[Dm] [Cm]
[Fm]
[G] Unfortunately, we couldn't have everybody that was on the album performing with us this evening.
We had Yermal Mark Atkins, both from Australia, and then we had [Cm] Scotty Morris.
It kind of feels like they're [Fm] with us tonight because we have samples of them going on,
so there'll be a [Eb] little element of haka, a little bit of edaki playing, and a little [Ab] bit of Aboriginal.
[Eb]
Actually, just watching [Bbm] them, they [F] rehearse so easily, [Bb]
[Cm] they discuss ideas [Gm] so easily.
They've still got ideas now.
They're open to other ideas.
It's just, [G] I think this is the way it should be, always, actually.
It really is, [Cm] but it's not often.
It's just gorgeous.
