I wanted to break down this Carlos Rios solo that's from Brother 2 Brother.
It's
one of the most sophisticated rock solos that I've heard on a record ever.
It's
from 1978 and it's really difficult to play.
I had it in my top 20 rock guitar
solos of all time video and so I made a little breakdown video about it to kind
of explain what he's playing over the chord [E] changes that are really
sophisticated.

[F#m] Here it is.
[Bm] [Am]
[C#] [F#] [F#m]
[F#]
[Bm] [D] [G]
[D] [C] [D#]
[F] [Cm] [Dm]
[D] [G]
[G#] [F#]
This is a really really difficult solo to play because it's all over the place.
There's a lot of bebop lines in it.
There's a lot of bends and things that
are kind of awkward for me to play.
It's really I think more [B] stylistically his
thing.
It starts here like this.
[E]
[A#] Really cool [B] choice there.
[D] He's playing right over [Em] the
changes.
[D] [E]
Then he goes up to octave.
[A] [G#]
[A] Here's where the bebop starts.
[E] [G]
That's an
[A] amazing line.
[G] [N] Where he goes right down playing [Dm] over D7 sharp 9 chord.
[G] [F#] [G] That's over [E] G
major 7.
[D#]
[N] That's another really weird set of bends.
And then here's the next cool
line.
This is an altered line.
[D]
[A] [D]
[G#] [D]
[A#] Really [G] tricky.
And then
[F#m] [Bm] he's outlining that B
minor chord.
[D] Then [C#] this [E] part is great.
[C#] [F] [C#] [F] [E]
Really [C#] really [F] so [N]
hard to conceive of
this and to play it and then executing it is even more difficult.
But this is
really a classic solo that you probably have never heard before.
But Gino
Vanelli, Carlos Rios playing the solo on Brother 2 Brother.
That's all for now.
