[E] [A] I don't know if I can play it fast enough.
Start it again. Slow down?
I'll move.
[G] Well you could, you could.
No I cannot.
Yeah I just play different notes.
But start it again.
We'll see.

The
synthesizer, the way I play it, doesn't need any manual skill.
You don't have to be clever [F#] to turn a knob.
[Gm]
[G] [C] Since there is such a wide range [A] of possibilities, you need [C#m] some kind of judgement about which
[D] is the right thing to use for a particular [G] occasion.
[N] So what I'm saying is that I have attempted to replace the element of skill considered
necessary in music by the element of [A#] judgement.

They stretch now over ten and a half years and record practically everything from the
most trivial shopping list to the most important [Fm] ideas I've had.
I [C] don't censor them at [Fm] all, so they do have as many [C] comments about whatever girls [Fm] I like
at the moment as whatever [F#] musicians I like at the moment, you know.

[C] [F#] When I was sixteen I went to art school, not mainly [G] because I wanted to be a painter, but
because [B] I wanted a period of time [G#m] in which I could decide what I did want to do.
[F]
[D#] Almost as soon as I got to art [E] school I became aware that there was a new [D#] kind of music around
and that this music had a quality about it [G#] which is that it didn't need skilled musicians
to actually make it.
I was also interested in phonetic poetry, which is [Dm] poetry using the sounds of words
rather than the meaning of words perhaps.
[A#m] And I started using [E] tape recorders and various [G] kinds of electronics to distort my own voice
so that I was beginning to use my voice as a musical [A#] instrument rather than as just a
means of giving verbal [G] information.
So anyway [Dm] I continued doing this [G#m] altogether for about four years.
[Fm] Then I became interested in rock music again, so I started singing with a band in fact,
which didn't last very long, and then quite shortly after that I joined [G] Roxy.
