One of my favorites is Warmth of the Sun.
And here's a case where he takes a really stock pattern,
which is, I mean, the stock version is this.
[Am] [G] This is [C] familiar to every 50s rock and roller.
And he takes it and he decides to break it apart
into two ways.
One is, [Eb] the second part is,
[Cm] which is basically the same chord change,
but it's put at a different level.
He puts them together,
[Am] [Cm] and then he makes a [Dm] turnaround.
It comes right [G] back.
The really neat experimental aspect of this
is the chord change shift
is by the most difficultly possible.
I mean, [A] here's the root of the first [Eb] chord,
root of the second chord.
That's really [F] tough.
Usually when we hear that sound,
[Bb] this is how those chords wanna go.
He makes them go completely differently.
[Am] [Eb] [Eb] So this is the composer deciding,
I wanna try new chord changes.
He puts it in the studio with his lush background vocals
and his own falsetto.
And you have this incredible gem of a composition.
JFK got shot to death.
And so we were like a little bit despondent about it.
He called me up and I said,

I thought it was terrible.
And he goes, well, do you wanna write a song
in tribute to JFK tonight at your office?
I said, sure.
So we met at my office around six o'clock,
seven o'clock in the evening,
