_ Never thought it'd come to this would you what he?
Huh?
26 years of buckaroo right [C] now.
He's on the stage of the Scott theater in Fort Worth Texas
I know a lot of this digging post holes part right pays about the same though.
Don't it? _ _
_ _ This is a great great old poem
For my very favorite cowboy poet his name is Bruce kiss cad
_ And I think maybe we'll all relate to this one a little bit
[D] _ _ Oh _
Amazing dream how [G] sweet the [D] sound that saved a
Wreck me [A] I _ _ _ _
once was low, _ [G] but now
_ [D] _ _
Was [Bm] blind but now _
[D] _ _ _ _ _
It was just a little graveyard on the rolling foothill plains
[G] It was bleached by Sun in summer
[D] swept by winter snows and rains
_ _ their little bunch [A] of
settlers had [E] gathered on an autumn day [A] around a
[D] homemade lumber Cothell
with their last respects to pay
_ [G] Weary men [D] who'd rung their living from this hard and arid land
_ [A]
Beside them stood their women
_ faded wives with toil [D] worn hands _ _
But among us was one figure who was wiry
[A] straight and trim
[D] _ Everyone among us knew him to a bronco twister
[A] Jim
_ _ Just a bunch of hardened [D] muscle tempered with a savage grid
He had the reputation [G] of a man who'd never quit
_ [D] _
He had helped to bake the coffin _ _
And he helped to dig the grave _ _
His instincts must have told him how he's supposed to behave _ _
[G] Well, we didn't have a preacher
[D] The crowd was mighty slim just two women with weak voices saying an old-time funeral hymn
[A] _ _ _ That's all we had for [D] service
The old wife was sobbing there for her husband [G] of a lifetime
[A] Laid away without a prayer
[D] _ _ [A] Then she saw the bronco twister and she [D] walked right up to him
Put one trembling arm around him and said _ _ _ _
_ [G] pray
[D] Please won't you Jim?
_ _ _ You could see [A] his figure straightening the look of quick surprise shoot across his swarthy features in his [D] heart daredevil eyes
_ He could handle any [G] bronco and he never dodged a fight [D] is the first time anybody'd ever seen his face turn white
_ [A] But he took his large sombrero off his rough and shaggy head. _ _
_ _ _ _ I
Wish I could remember what that bronco peeler said _ _
Now he wasn't educated on the range his youth was spent but the maker of [A] creation knew exactly what he meant _
He looked over towards [D] the mountains where the drifting shadows played _
_ [G] _ Silence must [A] have reigned in heaven when they were heard the way Jim prayed
_ _ _ [A] _
Years have passed [D] since that small funeral in that lonely graveyard lot, but it gave us all a memory
And a lot of food for thought
[G] As we stood beside this coffin [D] some freshly broken sod with a
reckless bronco breaker talking heart-to-heart with [A] God _ _ _
[D] When the prayer finally ended in the grave it all been filled on his half unbroken [G] pony
He rode back towards the hills and [D] we just stood there and let him
We watched him right [A] away
For no [D] words could ever.
Thank you
There's nothing we could say
_ _ Since we gathered at the graveyard has been nearly [G] 50 years
With [D] their joys and with their sorrows
with their hopes
their fears
[A] _ _ _ But I hope [D] when I'm finished
_ They've laid me with the [G] dead
_ _ [D] _
Some cowboy says a prayer above me
[A] _
Like [D] that bronco peeler said _ _
_ You
_ [Bm] _ _ _ [Em] _ _ [A] _ _ _
[D] _ _ _ _ _ _
_ [D] _ _ _ [G] _ _
[D] _ _ _ _ _ _
_ [G] _ _ _ _ _
[E] _ _ _ _ [C] _ _
_ [G] _ _ [D] _ _ _
