[B] Roxy [Abm] tends to be seen [Db] at the moment as a 70s band, [Gm] but we were an 80s band as well.
We [Ab] played well into [B] the 80s.
[Eb]
[G] No one ever knows when decades begin and end, but I think that you could argue that [Gb] the 80s actually [Abm] started early with [Db]
Manifesto and Flesh and Blood.

[Ab] When we came back, I think I'd learnt a lot from the Brightstrip [Eb] Bear album of working with different kind [G] of [Abm] musicians.
[Db] They were kind [Abm] of, I guess, top of the tree session [Ab] players who I learnt a lot from [Eb] perhaps.
I've been in LA, which is as far removed from punk as you get I suppose, or the London punk ethos.
Although I wasn't totally disconnected from it because a lot of the punk bands seemed to have been Roxy [B] fans and so on.
So there was a kind of thread there of energy.
[Bb]
Trying [B] to revive [Ab] the strength I've all [Db] seen.

[Abm] [Db]
[B] It was a bit dispiriting having great critical success and not perhaps as many sales or commercial success [Ab] as perhaps you wanted.
[B] And so one always wants more and that's the human [Db] condition here.
As an artist you always like wanting more and more.
The music be more intense, more successful, more this, more that.
[Ebm] It's finding your right [G] balance through [E] that that's [G] important I think.

[C]
[G] I'm [F] sorry that [Bb] I'm ready to cry.
[G] [D] I didn't mean [Em] to hurt you.
[C] [G] I'm just a jealous guy.
Jealous Guy seemed to be a song that, [D]
I don't think it had been a [Bm] great, like a big single.
I'm not sure if [Em] it ever was a big single by him, I don't know.
It was a kind [Fm] of album track which seemed a [Bb] little bit undiscovered in a way.
[G] And I just thought [Bm] that the [C] version he did was very beautiful.
I think [G] Phil Spector had produced it maybe and it had a wonderful haunted quality.
[D]
[Em]
[Gb]
[B] [D]
I did [Em] that song as a kind [Am] of, really as a one-off [C] in a big [G] concert we did in [F] Germany.
[C] And it was after the John Lennon [G] tragedy and [F] I thought well let's do this [Gm] song as an encore in the show.
Let's [Gb] rehearse it and do it.
And we did.
[E] And it received such an amazing response that we came back to London [G] and the following week recorded it.
It was our [A] [Em] number one record.
[D]
[Em]
[Db] I was swallowing [D] my pain.
[Em] I was swallowing [C] my pain.
[G] I [F] didn't mean to [C] hurt you.
[G] I'm [F] sorry that [Bb] I made you cry.
[G] I didn't mean to [Em] hurt you.
[C] [G] I'm just a jealous guy.
