The football helmet came from Sears, and Addy Goat's name was [F] Annabelle.
The third element was Bubba, and Bubba was crazy [Bb] as hell.
He was known for wild stunts, he never did nothing [Eb] by halves.
Bubba and his friends, and the goat we kept [Bb] in a hog wire pan [C] for nursing [Bb] leppy calves.
Bubba cocked one blood shot, I took off his car [F] hard coat.
And he said, if I put that helmet on, I could butt heads with that [Bb] goat.
These words were really spoken, I heard them with my [Eb] own ears.
And the saddest part was [Bb] my brother and me thought it [C] sounded like a good [Bb] idea.
I'm danged [Eb] if I know, danged if I know, [F] why we do [Bb] the things we do.
But one [Eb] thing I know, some things [Bb] you do though, [Fm] live longer than you [Bb] want them to.
But he stuck his head inside that helmet, he let out a [Fm] rebel yell.
And he waggled his fingers like a couple of horns, and he challenged old [Bb] Annabelle.
That goat reared up on her hind legs, she let out [Eb] with a bleat.
Delivered old Bubba a [Bb] glancing blow, [Fm] then beat a [Bb] quick retreat.
Bubba let go a laugh, with a decidedly scornful [Fm] note.
He said, hell that weren't nothing at all, you're a marshmallow, you ain't a [Bb] goat.
But the goat had windage and trajectory now, the next time [Eb] she come around.
With a sound like a bald [Bb] bat hitting a tree, [F] the mighty [Bb] Bubb went down.
I'm [Eb] danged if I know, [Bb] danged if I know, [Fm] why we do the [Bb] things we do.
[Eb] But one thing I know, some [Bb] things you do though, [Gm] live [C] longer than you want [Bb] them to.
Well he lay there for a really long time, till I [F] thought he was dead.
That helmet was cracked down the middle, and there was red marks on his head.
[Bb] He finally waddled to his hands and knees, I really [Eb] don't know how.
And his eyes rattled [Bb] round like pinballs, [C] and all he could say [Bb] was, wow.
Well that scene has kind of stuck with me, in a most [F] disturbing way.
Because dueling with a goat, a guy don't see that every [Bb] day.
They say psychological phobias, can start from things [Eb] like this.
And though I don't think Bubba [Bb] is afraid of goats, [F] he sure ain't messed with [Bb] one since.
I'm [Eb] danged if I know, [Bb] danged if I know, [F] why we do the [Bb] things we do.
But one [Eb] thing I know, some [Bb] things you do though, [C] live longer than you, so much longer.
Years and years longer, than you [Bb] want them to.
