Junior and I never had a misunderstanding.
When we got together was behind the tour we did with the Rolling Stones throughout Europe.
We both have had band problems and him and I had worked together.
We joined up in 1970.
A lot of times people misunderstood the fact that him and I might not have been getting along
and what they thought was between me and him was between the small club and the management of the club
telling me to do two songs and Junior to do two songs and we were like saying,
man we're not giving these people enough of neither one of us.
And somebody back behind the curtain telling us to cut it so they can get these 80 people or 50 people out of these small clubs
so they can let the other 50 in.
That's the only way the small clubs survive.
And after a period of time him and I sit and talk.
I said Junior we're not done, neither one of us any good.
I mean we owe these people more than we're able to give them because we're controlled by the club and the management
telling us and you can't tell the audience it's not my fault I don't want to play.
It's just Junior and Butter they're not playing together, they're not getting along.
Damn right we was mad because when we go we [F#] want to play.
I mean Junior played at my place.
I have to put the lights out on him to stop him.
So this is what you can't do when you play for someone else in New York or Boston or all these [D#m] little places we were playing.
And they were saying when I tell you to cut off at 1230 I'm going to lose [Bm] my license.
If you don't I can understand that but the fans don't know nothing about that.
They'll go and say well Junior and Butter's not getting along, they're not going to play.
But that's not true.
But you'd have to be me to know how I feel and what it's like to play with Junior.
As I say I learned a lot because Junior, you [F#] know I kid him a lot about the difference in our age.
But he had played with Muddy and Walt and them before I came here.
And he had experience that I wanted and I didn't have.
And to know him whether he gave it to me or not, if I get a chance to play with him I was going to get it anyway.
So you can't hide from him.
So I guess that's how we become good friends.
Because he had people like Earl Hooker, much better guitar players than I was to play with him.
But how this thing stuck I really don't know because I wouldn't take a no for an answer for one thing.
It just stuck and him and I became best of friends even if we, you know husband and wife gets a misunderstanding.
I don't think me and Junior [C] ever got into a misunderstanding, a physical misunderstanding since we've been at it.
But if you listen to that you would say well them two guys don't like one another.
But you better not come between us when we got like that because we've been that close all the time.
All I can say about Buddy is that [B] that's [N] all.
