Okay, so here's my second
Buddy Whittington lesson.
I just want it to be short one.
I just want to do the opening solo of
Sure Got Cold After The Rain Fell
It's a particularly nice one.
It's fairly short and simple
But for me there's a
[D] quite a bit of study in it [G#] because it
does that nice blend of major and minor [G] pentatonic
borrows [G#m] various notes from each scale to get that really nice kind of bluesy [A] country sound
which [D#] I particularly like.
So
[D#] to demonstrate this one, [G#] it's just three chords really the main
the main [A] verse.
This
[D] [A]
[D] [A] [G#] goes through.
So I'm going to use my boss loop pedal
Play the chords [N] in then play the solo over the top then show you how to do it.
Okay
[A]
[D]
[A]
[D] [A]
[D]
[A]
[D]
[A]
[D]
[Am]
[A]
[A] [F#] So
Okay, so this is one of those solos where the timing is quite loose it's [G] pulled about a fair bit
[C#] So you just have to kind of feel your way.
It's quite difficult to get it
precise to [F#] the original so I just like to try to get it somewhere near.
[G#] So it's based mainly around a major pentatonic thing
[A] Starts here.
We start with a [F#] nice hammer-on
From the 7th to the 10th fret [G] on the B string
[F#m] [F#]
Just play everything close up rather than explain it too much.
I'll play everything [D] close up so you can see
[A] [D#] Then we go up to the 12th fret and we have a sort of a long bend that we sort of hold
[D]
It's one of those kind of bends.
It's a long one never quite
[Bm] [F#]
[D] [G#] Never quite seems to hit the note.
It's going for quite deliberately of course
So [Bm] it kind of sounds like this
[Dm] [G] Another A note for a bit.
So [D] the first bit
[Bm]
[A] [F#]
Then we go down here to
sort of the A
Pentatonic type position
Kind of run slide down here from [D] 8th to 7th, [A]
[D] [A] [G#] which is a minor blues
[D] [C#]
Hammer on [B] on the G [A] string
The [D] A
[A]
[C] Then slide down to [C#] D
Pull off to [A] C sharp
And A.
So it's kind of a mix [F#] that little riff of major and [C] minor
[D] [A]
[D] [A]
[D] Okay, [G#] and the next bit we go down to the
Major pentatonic position
This one here
Play those three notes.
So we've got
[F#] F sharp, [A] A, E
[F#m]
[F#] And a bend from the E up to the F sharp.
[A] Make sure you hit that note.
Otherwise it sounds dreadful
[Bm]
[D] Not like that.
[B] [F#]
Then you [Gm] pull off down to [B] the D there
[E] And play your B on the string [Bm] below
And then
[C#] [A]
[G] Kind of one of those rolling [F#] licks.
It kind of just fits in there.
There's no real
sort of hard timing to it.
So we've got E
Then we're on the third string [B] here
[F#]
Pulling off
Playing the F sharp there.
Then [G#] we do, it ends with an [A] A there
And a slide up to the A there.
So you get that
[D] That sounds [B] off.
[F#m]
Then another double [F#] stop run down.
Very typically sort of country [A]
blues type run
[D] Slide up to the F sharp there.
[C#] So we've got F sharp, D
[D] [C] E
C
[Bm] [A] [F#]
Using plectrum and second finger to plug there.
So we've got F sharp, [D] D
E, [C] C
E,
[D] D, [B] B, C [A] sharp, A.
No, sorry, C, [C#] A
[A]
[F#] All on the third and fifth strings
[Bm]
[A] So all the way [F#m] through
Won't hold the notes for as [D] long
[Bm]
[E] [B] [D]
[A]
[D] [A]
[D] [A] [N]
And that's it.
There's lots of variations on that solo
[C#]
[D#] within the song
So go through and
Pick out what you like and learn it.
Okay.
Thanks

Using plectrum and second finger to plug there.
So we've got F sharp, [D] D

No, sorry, C, [C#] A
