Hello, Mamas and Papas, California Dreaming for Beginners, so we'll leave out some chords, simplify it.
And we've got the capo of the fourth fret, because then it's in the original.
You can play along to the Mamas and Papas, sort of.
OK, the chords are not so difficult.
You've got A minor, [B] G, F, [Ab] E, and [E] there's also a C somewhere.
I guess the difficult one's the F.
If you [N] make the E shape with these fingers, move them off the fret, put your first finger [A] across all of them.
You've got A, F, E, and F.
[Ab] It's the most difficult one for beginners to master, but [Gb] it's worth persevering.
[N]
OK, there's an intro, but we're not really going to learn the intro.
But just to give you an idea, it starts in A minor.
If you start on the D string, I'll just play each string going upwards.
[B]
[Ab] I've got to E.
It gives you some sort of intro, it's not the original, but I don't know.
Anyway, I'll sing through the first verse, and then we'll go through it really slowly, to give you an idea of the chord changes.
[Dbm] [B]
[Ab] [B]
[Ab] [B] Not the worst in [Ab] L.A.
[B] California dreamin'
[Ab] It's such a water's day
[Gb] So, start off at [Dbm] A minor, first line.
All the leaves are brown, stay in A minor, then you go to [A] G, F, and the [B] G again.
And the sky [Ab] is grey, B.
[Db] Again, [Dbm] A minor.
All the leaves are brown, G, F, [B] and the sky is [Ab] grey, E.
You've got to go to F, [Abm] immediately to F.
I've [E] been on a walk, F, C, E, [A] A, on a winter's F, [Ab] E day.
[E] I've been on a walk, [Ab] B, A minor, on a F, E.
Stay in E, I'll be [Dbm] safe and [B] warm, A minor, G, F.
If a G [Ab] was in L.A.
Just keep in E.
California, [Dbm] A minor, G, F, G again, such a winter's day, E.
I stopped into a [B] church, [A]
passed a long [Ab] way.
I got down on my knees, [Dbm] and I pretend [Ab] to pray.
You [Dbm] know the future, the [A] life, God [B] knows I'm gonna [Ab] stay.
California dreaming, [A]
[B] is such a winter's day.
[C] Now, there's a bridge after the second verse, there's a little la la line, and it takes you back to the third verse.
So I'll give you the idea of, I'll give you the chord progression, and you can listen to the original maybe and [Dbm] get an idea.
So it goes, A minor, for a few bars, [A] F for a few bars, [E] C, E, A minor, [Ab] F, E.
So the chord progression is A minor, [E] F, C, [Ab]
[Eb] E, A [A] minor, F, E.
That takes you nicely into the verse.
All the leaves are [B] brown, and the [Ab] sky is grey.
It's a nice sing-along song, you don't have to play it [Bb] perfectly.
