Hello guys, this is Amos, Dull Music, and in today's lesson,
I'm going to teach you how to play Carol of the Bells, okay?
So, it goes like this, give you a preview of what you're going to learn.
Two main motifs to learn.
First one, it starts off like this.
And then the other motif is the main, like, motif, goes like this.
[Gm]
[Dm] [A]
[Dm]
[G] [Dm] [A]
[A] [Dm]
Alright, let's get right into it.
So, [D]
pretty simple stuff.
The first section is really simple.
It has this five note motif played like for repeats, okay?
So, right hand starts on the F up here, middle C, go up an octave C, F here.
So, [B] F, [Dm] E, F, D, A.
Repeat these five notes.
Repeat.
Repeat.
Very simple.
Left hand is just D minor chord, D, F, A.
[F] So, for every, you can [D] like play the chord with every first note of the five note phrase,
or you can hold it.
It depends, up [Dm] to you.
So, you can be like, chill out.
Okay, so this first section is very [E] easy.
It's just like repeat of that, okay?
[Db] Now, moving on to the more difficult [Em] section.
The other section goes like this, okay?
Right hand starts on the high D up here.
[N] So, middle C, go up an octave C, go up [D] another octave C, D right here.
So, it goes D, D, D, C, B flat, [Dm] A, A, [Ab] A, [D] G, F, G, G, G, A, G, F, E, F, D.
That's the first part.
We'll break it up to two parts, it's easier to learn.
One more time, it goes D, D, D, C, [A] B flat, A, [G] A, A, G, F, G, G, G, A, A, G, F, D.
G, G, A, G, [Em] F, [Bb] E, F, D.
That's it for the right hand for the first [E] part.
Once you get that left hand, four chords.
The four chords are [Dm] D minor twice, which is D, F, A.
So, two of them.
Third [Gm] chord, G minor, G, B flat, D, and [Dm] fourth chord, D minor.
Okay, so with these four chords in mind, so D minor twice, [Gm] G minor [Dm] and back to D minor.
Turn together, it goes like this, D and D minor together.
G and D minor together.
G [Gm] and G minor together.
F [Dm] and D minor together.
That's it for the first part of this section.
One more time, it goes together.
[Gm]
[Dm] Alright, moving on to the second part.
Second part is just this phrase played two times.
It goes [B] A, B, C sharp, D, [G] E, F, G, A, G, F.
Repeat, [B] A, B, C sharp, [D] D, E, F, G, A, G, F.
Like that.
So that phrase played two times right there.
The last time is just two [A] A major chords, which is A, C sharp, E.
So two of them.
Okay, it's just the first note of the right [Db] hand played with the chord for [A] the two times.
And together, [E] just that.
Easy, [G] and that's it for this section.
So back to back, these two parts we've learned in this section goes [Dm] like this.
[Gm] [Dm] [A]
[Dm]
[Gm] [Dm] [A]
[Dm] Yeah.
Alright.
So yeah, [N] once you get all these melody and chords all good,
you can start to make up your [D] own improvisation or decorations.
So you have the left hand, you can do like [D] octave bass,
and then you could do arpeggios.
[Dm]
[G] Yeah, you can play around with those accompaniment.
And right hand, you can harmonize the bass on the chords to make it [Dm] bigger.
Yeah, [Gm]
[Dm] [A]
[Dm]
so you can alternate between the two sections like that, okay?
So pretty much, [D] that's pretty much it for this song.
Mostly just all like the two sections I taught you,
and you could just like cycle it, [Dm] okay Blake?
[G]
[Dm] [A]
[Dm]
Yeah.
So yeah, just like vary it and [A] make up your own version for it, okay?
[D] So it's not that difficult to learn these two sections.
Hope you [N] enjoyed this.
