This is a Carole King tune, a pure Carole King tune.
I heard it for the first time standing right there
where that green and red [G] Christmas-y light is there.
I used to [A] stand out here.
I can't remember anything for one year either side
[D#]
of hearing this song, but I remember standing there
and hearing [A#] Carole play this song.
I worked it up on [G] the guitar and got a version of it
[N] and in an [F#] amazing [B] act of generosity,
just plain nothing [N] but generosity, kindness,
she let me cut this tune first, release it first.
And I was amazed because she was cutting a tapestry
at the time.
And she would let go what I thought was maybe
the best pop tune ever written.
You know, I was just amazed.
I didn't realize at the time that [D#] I'd be singing
that song every single night for the rest of my [G] life.
[A] [N] But it's a great song to be known for.
And I've traveled around the world on this tune.
It's great.
So I thank Carole for it often when she's not around
and I'm gonna thank her right now.
[A]
[D] When [A]
[G#m] [C#] [F#m] you're down and [B] in [C#] trouble
And [F#m] you need [C#] some [F#m] love and care
[Bm] And nothing, [A] oh nothing is going right
Just
[G#m] close your [C#] eyes, thinkin'
[F#m] Yes and soon [C#] I will be [F#m] there
To [Bm] brighten [C#m] even [A] your [Em] darkest night
[D] [Bm] [E] [D] [A] You just call out my [E] name
[A] And [D] you know [Bm] I'll [A] come running
To see you [E] [A] again
[E] [D] It's [A]
winter, spring, summer or fall
[D] Really all you gotta do is [F#m] call
[A] And [D] I will be there, [C#m] yeah, yes I'll [Bm] be [E] there
You've got a [A] friend
[D] The [A]
[G#m] [C#]
[F#m] sky [C#] above you
Should turn [F#m] dark [C#] and full of [F#m] clouds
And that [Bm] old north wind
[E] Should begin to [A] blow
Keep
[G#m] your head [C#] together
[B] [C#] And [F#m] call [C#] my name out [F#m] loud
[Bm] Soon you'll hear me [C#m] knocking
On your [E] door, [Bm] your door, your [E] door
[D] [E] You just call out my name
And [D] you know [Bm] I'll [A] come to see [E] you again
[A] [Bm] [E] [A]
Winter, spring, summer or fall
[D] All you got to do is [F#m] call
[A]
[D] And I'll be [A] there, yes I will, [Bm] [E] amen
[G] Now ain't it good to know
[D] You've got a friend
Who [A] can keep up and be so [E] calm
[A] [D] They'll hurt ya, yes I'll [G] desert ya
But [F#m] they'll take your soul if you let [B] them
Oh [D] now, don't you [A] let [E] them
You just call out my name
And [D] you know [Bm] I'll [A] come running
Just as fast as I can
To see you [D] again
[E] Oh yes, don't you know about [A] that
Winter, spring, [E] summer or [A] fall
[D] All you got to do is [F#m] call on [A] me
And I [D] will not be there, [A] yeah, yes I'll [Bm] be there
You've got [A] a friend
[Bm] You've [A] got yourself a friend
[Bm] Ain't it good to know
That you've [A] got a friend
[Bm] Walking and talking [A] to night
[Bm] Here [D] [A] we are [Bm] at the [A] Troubadour
Never [E] thought we [C#m] would do [Bm] this anymore
[A] But this was the [Bm] place that opened the door [A] for this
Thank you, [Bm] thank you, thank [D] you James
[A] Ain't it good [E] to know
[Bm] [A] Ain't it good to [E] know
[Bm] [E] Ain't it good to know
Ain't it [Bm] good to know
[A] Ain't it good [E] to know
[Bm] Yeah, [D] yeah, yeah
[Em] You've got a [A] friend
[N]
Again, just in case I forget to say it later
Thanks on all of our behalfs for coming out and making this possible
[A#] Unless you catch, we can't pitch, so thanks
