[E] We've been fortunate enough to [Am] have recent additions to our band who are absolutely magnificent.
Dom and I started off [E] with a fella named [Am] Justin Robbins and we were the [A] three who went down to see Joe.
And [Dm] Justin wanted to go back to [D#] school and [Am] he's now studying Forest Street so he's doing a good fight.
[G] [A]
But we were lucky [Dm] enough that [F#] Hubby joined last year and he's just added so much.
As he said, he's [F] from Brooklyn [D] and [A]
he's gotten to feel through these old [G] tunes so well.
And it's [A] just been really delightful to have him with us.
[Am] And then also, later last year we picked up this [G] wonderful cello [Am] player who's going to be playing banjo on this too.
But she's [D]
helped us open up a whole other world [Am] of Black Diaspora in that her [F#] family comes from Painting.
[N]
My name is Layla and I normally play cello.
[G] But I've been getting really into some of the Haitian old time [D] music which is called [G] Troubadour music.
Or at least that section of the music is Troubadour [Em] music.
[F] And [F#m]
in the traditional Troubadour band [E] you have a conga player, [C#m]
a four string banjo like the one that Dom is playing,
and the singer usually [G#] plays maracas and dances and sings.
I actually ran into a couple of these bands while I was in Haiti last December.
And it's [G] just kind of funny because as soon as you get interested in something in [E] music it just starts to [Gm] show up everywhere in your life.
And it's part of the beauty of being a musician.
But [G] this song is a [Dm] really funny song [G] actually called Rosemary.
And one of the things that's also interesting about this music is that all the songs, these beautiful metaphors,
and these sometimes comical stories, and this is one of them.
It's about a woman who falls in love with a musician [C] and [G] says about the musician, flaky musician,
He doesn't have a mother, he doesn't have a father, he doesn't have any family, and he doesn't have any friends.
Rosemary, it's you who brought Dodo to the door.
The guy's name is Dodo.
[Em] [C] Find a [G] way to live with him.
[C] [D] Musicians are an open book.
[G]
So this has been a really fun one to explore with you guys.
