[G]
[D] said why do you [A] chase me [G] so?
[D] The Difference was one of the most fun songs [A] to produce
because [D]
it has that four on the floor dance thing.
But because of the banjo, it has so much rhythmic subdivision
and so much syncopation.
[F#m] [D]
I wrote it on the 5-string banjo.
That main banjo riff that you hear [E] [D] is really what [G] inspired the song.
I started playing that and it was a really [D] fun write
because it's kind of sassy and romantic and playful and sexy
and it reads like a story, like a [G] narrative.
With [D] the stories [A] of my [G] soul
He drew [D] a map
[A] Don't [Bm] forget, what I'm thinking of doubling the banjo part on [B] the neck-yellow banjo
for the reason [Bm] that [E] we can then [B] do MIDI [G] banjo,
we can do a synth on the banjo,
and we can have the [Bm] banjo evolve [D] sonically without the top.
We made the banjo notes MIDI, [G] we MIDI-fied the banjo,
[D] and we doubled it on synth sounds.
I think we have three synth sounds [G] layered in there.
And [D] so it becomes this epic, dance-y banjo.
Listen to what I want when I [A] want it
But he knows what I need
It reminds me of the synth in one of my favorite songs,
Baba O'Reilly by The [F#] Who.
[B]
[F#] [B]
[D] [A] The third verse, that was [D] a development that came
in trying to make the production fresh after three verses.
Lord knows, only time will tell
If ever I'll blush for [Gm] someone else
I'm kind of tipping my hat to some of the old country singers
[D] who used to speak their songs, [A] like George Jones and others.
My son
But
[D] [A] he knows what I need when I [G] need it
Got to go, man
[D] We had some of my family and friends come in [A] and say,
Gosh damn, gosh [G] damn, gosh damn!
And it's so [D] funny, you've got a bunch of people [G] in a room
who [D] are not recording artists and are kind [A] of, you know,
mic [D]-shy or camera-shy, everything's shy.
But if you get them dancing and screaming,
Gosh damn, gosh [A] damn, something just happens to people.
[G] Something happens, gosh damn,
He [D]
doesn't follow where [A] I [G] walk
That was a really, really fun, [D] fun song to write,
fun song to produce, and I can't wait to play that song [G] live.
Somehow he [D] knows the difference
[A] [N]
