Hey, what's up out there?
So in this video, I'm going to be taking you through the chorus of the song, Carry
On, Wayward Son, by Kansas, as far as the harmonies go.
So I did say that right, a lot of people make the mistake of calling it Carry On, My Wayward
Son, and that's understandable because that's how the lyrics go, but the song is actually
called Carry On, Wayward Son.
So I actually did a video on this song a long time ago, but back then I was a lot more careless
as far as my videos, but I'm a lot more careful now especially because my following
kept growing and growing, I didn't want to be putting out mistakes, so I'm making a
fix-up video.
There were a couple of things that were wrong with it, like the pitch was wrong, and in
the silhouette drawings that I do, I was missing a guy, and actually one of the guys is one
of the singers, so that was kind of a big mistake.
But I just felt like making an update video on this song for a long time.
Me personally, this song is one of my favorite classic rock songs.
I used to chain-listen to this song all the time.
Do it for the video man, do it for the video.
Okay so this song is a 3-part harmony, I'm going to be taking you through that in this video.
This 3-part harmony isn't like the classic melody high harmony and then lower harmony,
This actually is melody with two harmonies underneath it.
So we're going to be exploring that.
So first things first, I'm going to be showing you the melody and it goes like this.
Check it out.
Carry on my wayward son, there'll be peace when you are done.
Lay your weary head to rest, don't you cry no more.
So now that we're back, I'm going to have you listen to the harmony just underneath that.
And the melody vocals are quite high, so be careful.
Most men probably won't be able to reach this.
So just be mindful, you don't want to wreck your voice, you don't want to hurt your throat or whatever.
The lead singer of Kansas can sing really high, he's got that typical high rocker kind of voice.
And this harmony here is actually pretty high too, so it's not everybody who's going to be able to hit this either.
But yeah, check this harmony out, it goes like this.
Carry on my wayward son, there'll be peace when you are done.
Lay your weary head to rest, don't you cry no more.
Okay, next, what I'm going to do is I'm going to play those two harmonies together, so we can hear how they harmonize together.
Check it out.
Carry on my wayward son, there'll be peace when you are done.
Lay your weary head to rest, don't you cry no more.
So lastly, I'm going to play you the bottom harmony, and it goes like this.
Check this out, listen.
Carry on my wayward son, there'll be peace when you are done.
Lay your weary head to rest, don't you cry no more.
Okay, up next, just like before, I'm going to play the melody with this harmony so we can understand how they harmonize together.
Carry on my wayward son, [Db] there'll be peace [N] when you are done.
Lay your weary head to rest, don't you cry no more.
And that's basically it.
If you got all that down, you can replicate how Kansas sang the chorus of Carry On, Wayward Son.
I was going to put this video out a little while ago, but I lost my micro SD card and I didn't feel like reshooting the video.
I was looking all over the place, couldn't find it, so I just had to redo it.
But anyways, I apologize for the big gap between videos.
I want it to be reasonably consistent as far as the new era of this channel, but I don't know, sometimes things happen.
Anyways, thanks for watching, it means a lot.
Stay tuned where I'm going to be doing another song.
Actually, this time, instead of spontaneously choosing a song, I'm actually [Ab] planning on doing a song, so I'll just let you know here, sneak peek.
I'm not going to tell you what song it is, but just to make the audience excited, it's actually going to be a Britney Spears song.
So that's kind of cool.
I'm looking at a 70s classic rock song, and now the following video is going to be the Pop Princess.
So that's going to be fun, you want to hear me sing Britney Spears?
Should be fun.
Also, [B] I'll say this, there's been some [Abm] female viewers who [Ab] let me know that I should do more [B] songs, more material [F] from female [G] bands or [Bb] female singers and whatnot.
[B] Yeah, I agree.
[Abm] I did notice that [E]
most of my stuff is male, so I got to get on [B] that stuff.
But anyways, once again, thanks for watching.
Sing in harmony, live [Ab] in harmony.
And we'll see you [Em] here next time.
Thanks.
