We woke up early the morning of April 25th, loaded our [Cm] five-year-old into the car,
[Eb] drove to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital where she would have her open heart surgery.
It was to fix a [Cm] congenital heart defect that [Eb] limited the amount of oxygen she got to her body.
We actually found out when she was still in the womb early [Cm] on,
and some of the ultrasounds [Eb] found some things, and we went to a specialist,
and [F] there was a neonatal [Eb] _ cardiologist who was able to do an [Cm] ultrasound and find [Gm] this defect.
At first, it was just [Eb] kind of like a shock, you know, because you're expecting everything to be perfect,
and then you hear things like, your baby's going to need [C] open heart surgery at some point.
The fear [Eb] is, what if my baby goes to sleep and doesn't wake up?
One of the things [Cm] that _ kept our [Eb] fear going was not knowing exactly when the surgery was going to be.
When she was born, they said, between ages zero and two,
[Cm] and she would have cardiologist [Eb] appointments every six months,
and they'd say, well, not yet, we're going to wait until she gets a little bigger.
Just the fear [Cm] being prolonged over so many [Eb] years,
and every six months getting to that appointment and wondering,
is this something we're going to have to deal with now?
[Cm] There was nothing that we could [Eb] do [Gm] physically to help our [Eb] baby.
It was at that point where it's just really like, do you trust God [F] or do you not trust God?
Do you believe that His [Cm] promises are true?

[F] _ _ _ _ I actually have the privilege of being able to work with Casting Crowns,
and I got to hear this [Eb] song probably _ four or five months _ [Cm] before the world heard it.
I was just like, this [Bb] song was literally written [Ab] for our life, like right now.
[Eb] Listening to the verses, it [Gm] really _ touched a [Cm] place deep inside me.
To hear him say one more time to me, you are not [Eb] alone, that's kind of his thing.
You're not alone, I love [Bb] you.
He's always [Cm] reaffirmed that to me time and time again.
_ [Eb] _ That's when I gave up my fear of the [Cm] future and the fear of what was going to [Eb] happen to my God.
_ _ _ _ So we had been in the waiting room [Cm] for six hours [Eb] probably, and Lauren's phone rang,
because they were giving us updates every hour.
The nurse [Abm] said, I just want to let you know, the surgeon is done. _
They've done the repair, and it's a success.
[Cm] Everything looks great.
We've [Bb] taken pictures, everything's flowing as it should.
[Ab] They've turned [Eb] off the bypass machine.
They're just closing her up now, and you'll be [Gm] able to see her [Cm] in about two hours.
I just remember at that moment, like this, like, _ [Eb] _ _ where are we going? _ _
_ [Bb] _ Being, [Cm] what are we, three, four months out now from [Eb] the surgery,
people ask all the time, how's Emmy, how's Emmy?
And I say, [Cm] she's amazing, 100%.
Two [Eb] days after we got her home, she was acting like herself again.
We don't even have any fears.
We almost don't even remember [Cm] that she had the surgery until we see the giant [Eb] scar, you know, on her chest.
But it's just been amazing, the turnaround she's had, and the energy and the [Cm] joy and the life that [Eb] she has. _
