_ _ [C] Charlie Crockett loves doing his take on [G] traditional roots music of all kinds with his own [D] original tunes.
[Bm] But he also loves paying musical [E] tributes to his influences by interpreting and covering
[Bm] songs from his heroes.
Either way, when [D] he's doing it, it's cool.
[C] He and his band put on a [G] great show.
Here's a taste from Music Fest and Steamboat 2020. _
Trinity River [C] was, I guess, [G] my most popular song off my first [D] official album release called
A [C] Stolen Jewel.
Obviously, [Em] the Trinity River runs through Dallas-Fort Worth and on [C] down into the Gulf.
And I was [E] sitting on a bridge over the [Em] top of that river one day and the song just come to me.
And I was thinking about [A] my own struggle and the generations of _ [D] blue-collar people and
[D] folks _ [Em] struggling through adversity to [C] make [Em] their presence known in their [B] life.
And I just kind of, maybe the spirits come out the river and help me write it.
[C] It's a [D] deep elem sound with the [C] rhythm of blues and [G] the strong trumpet playing and the
bluer, grittier [C] lyrics, the kind of [G] backbeat on it, the jazz [C] undertones.
And it really is an opportunity, [D] especially as we've been playing it every night.
For me, I can [G] show my vocal range and all the guys in the band get to really stretch
[Em] out and show what they can [D] do.
And I think [G] that's a big part of the reason that it's such a crowd favorite.
And they all can [Em] clap along to it.
[D] And [C] the horn melody is [D] so memorable.
But people like the honesty in it.
[G] And over the years, I've gotten a lot better at doing [C] it live.
And that's why I was so [G] excited to [C] get you guys to record it [G] at Steamboat was because
the band is playing it really great.
Sometimes I wonder if it wouldn't be a bigger hit for me if I re-recorded it now.
