When I was [G] growing up, my dad was in a country band, and [Dm] he had a home studio, and I would
hear them [F] practicing and recording Fleetwood [D] Mac covers and stuff, so that was pretty much
how I was introduced to music in [F] general.
At first I [F] wasn't interested in guitar as much as I was in recording, so I [D] had my dad
teach me how to record, and then eventually [Dm] I wanted to accompany myself, so I had [F] him
teach me a few things on guitar.
I just wasn't a very good student.
I'm not very good at reading [D] music or following [Dm] specific instructions, I guess.
So from there I was pretty much self-taught [C] and have been ever since.
I just kind of like to [A] approach things in an instinctual way.
[F]
The song we're going [N] to perform today is called We Hit a Wall.
There's a few songs on my new album that are kind of about the more realistic side
of love [C] and of being in love.
[E] It's a really simple song that only really has two [A] parts.
[F]
[D]
[F] [G] [D] [F]
[E] That just kind of goes over and over.
I like repetition because it kind of gets me into this sort of trance state in a way,
where I can just kind of meditate on it.
I tend to turn right, sort of, reality [C] side of a lot of things that most people idealize.
I love idealizing things as well, but when it comes to something like love,
when I was thinking about [E] it, it really takes a lot of work and a lot of tears and a lot of pain,
along with all the good times.
[D]
[F] [D]
[F] [D] We hit a wall
[F] We were [D] never sure
[F] Why we [Dm]
hurt
This [F] new album that I just put out, a lot of it was [Dm] this process [A] of trying to get things [Am] out of myself
that I wasn't able to get out before.
It's like [D] something more personal than usual.
[F] I was really thinking about rooftops [Dm] when I wrote it, because I live near downtown,
so [F] I drive around the freeways around downtown, [Dm] and I love all the tall buildings right there.
[Am] I was thinking it would be fun to [F] play on one of those buildings, and [D] just have that open space.
There's [Dm] so many people in the world that date or [F] marry or whatever,
people that are just so wrong for them, that are abusive towards them one way or the other.
[D] When you finally meet someone that is good to you, it's [Dm] almost like you can't accept it,
because you're so used [A] to the negativity.
It sounds like a [F] pretty depressing song, but it's actually a positive song.
[Dm] How is this the way
[F] How is this the [Dm] way
[Dm] [A]
[D] [F]
[D] [F]
[D] [F]
[D] [F]
We hit [D] a wall
[F] [Dm] Everywhere that [F] we used to [D] use to go
[F] Left [D] the door
[F] Through [D] the endless night
[F] Shooting [D] at the walls of my [F] head
The project is unique [Dm] in the fact that it is a solo project at heart.
[F] It started as a solo project, and in my [Dm] mind it kind of always will be,
but when it comes [F] to playing live and certain [Dm] songs,
I think it's important to bring other [C] people and other energies and ideas [F] in there
and make it [A] into something greater than just a song [C] with guitar and vocals and a few other things.
I think it's [D] important to follow what feels right at any [F] given time with music,
and not to force yourself to do something [Dm] that you don't want to do at that time.
[F] [D] I'm feeling strong
[F] I'm [D] feeling strong
[F] I'm feeling [D]
strong
[F] I'm [D] feeling strong
[F] [D]
There [F] [A]
is [F] no way

[F] There [A]
is no [F] way
