[E] [G] Yeah, my stepdad used to come home slightly south about twice a week,
[C]
play Blind Lemon [G] Jefferson on the phonograph all that long.
That was one of my first finger-picking [C] influences, I guess.
And [G] then later on, Merle, of course, was a big influence.
I think Merle was [C] inspired by Ike Everly [G] and Mose Rager.
[C]
[G] Well, I first met Mose, he was a coal miner in Drixburg, Kentucky.
Him and Ike Everly, well, him and Ike Everly [D] run around together,
and [G]
they're still young [Em] men, you might say, in their, I [C] imagine, early 60s.
[G] They run around together and played thumb and finger style,
[C]
and [G] wherever they was, I always tried [D] to manage to be there.
[G]
[E]
[G] [D] [G]
Ike was an awful [Gm] good-looking fellow, and [G] had blond, wavy [D] hair.
[G]
Mose was a tall, sandy-haired fellow that laughed at [Gm] everything, about everything.
[G] [D] Still does.
[G]
[C]
[G] [D] [G]
[Em] They [C] never took time to, [G] I wouldn't say take [D] time,
I never had nerve enough to [G] ask them to show me anything.
I'd just hang around and [E] watch how they'd done it, and go home and try it [G] myself.
[E] [G]
[C]
[G] They used whatever guitar they could get.
I remember the time that Mose didn't even own a guitar.
[Gm]
He would borrow a guitar to keep it a while, [E] and borrow somebody [G] else's guitar to keep it a while.
And Ike, I think he had a homemade [D] guitar, the Sunfella [G] down on Green River.
[G] So [Em] they were extensivists, they [G] never [D] had [G] their hands on one.
