_ _ [F#] _ _ _ _ [Dm] The fate [G] of four American Idol hopefuls hung in the balance.
One of these groups is [D] the bottom two, one [D] is the top two.
Which is which?
[Dm] Elliot, Taylor, are we looking at the bottom or the top right here?
What [D] do you think? _
Is that Cat and Chris, are they safe or is one going home?
What do you think guys?
_ _ _ _ _ I'll tell you this, Taylor, Elliot, you're safe, have a seat.
[F#] _ _ Congratulations.
Keep it up.
_ [C] I was pretty shocked to [G] see Chris and Catherine both in the bottom two.
That was _ one of those weeks where it was just kind of a crazy [F] week.
It was shocking.
Your top two right there, Elliot and Taylor.
I didn't know what to think [C] because I thought Cat and Chris were [G#] both really strong competitors.
It was a toss up.
I didn't know who was going to [G] go home.
I didn't think either one of them deserved to be in the bottom.
But top four, [G#] somebody's got to be there.
I was just glad I was [G] safe and I didn't have to worry about that that week.
[C#] _ [B] Chris, step forward.
Catherine, step forward.
[C] _ _
_ America, your bottom two.
When [N] Cat and I were in the bottom two, it was very, very nerve wracking.
I was very nervous.
Not sure as to what was going to go down.
But I felt like I had done my personal best.
There were weeks where I was like, I'm going home this week.
Because I didn't feel like I'd done my best.
This particular week I felt great about and I was pretty happy with it.
[Em] Simon, in your opinion, who do you think is leaving tonight?
_ _ _ [E] Who do I [E] think should go based on last night?
Sure.
_ Catherine. _ _ _
The bottom two.
But what was [D] shocking was that the week before, Chris Daughtry and I were in.
They said that we had the top votes of that week.
[A#] So for both of us to be the falling week in the bottom two, oh my gosh, such [B] a roller coaster of emotions.
And I definitely, I was like, I'm going home.
There was no doubt in my [E] mind.
A lot of people predicted both of you could be in our finale.
A lot of people predicted, Chris, that you could be the next American Idol. _
_ _ _ _ _ Chris, you are going [C] home tonight.
The journey ends.
America, _ [G] you have spoken and Chris is off the show tonight.
_ [C] It was [G] like all of a sudden the world froze.
[G#] _ _ I looked at the entire [C] room and people's mouths were [Gm] open and they just couldn't believe it.
I mean everyone [C] was shocked.
I was shocked.
Kat, [G#] you're safe.
[C] I was grateful I was staying, but at the same time, the overall [G#] feeling in the [Cm] soundstage arena audience was [F] not so good.
Everyone was like, boo!
_ They should have just thrown apples at me.
I try not to take it [G#] personally, but they were upset that he was leaving.
[C] But somebody voted for me [Cm] to stay.
I don't know who.
A lot of people in shock.
Are [C#] you?
[D] I'm a little bit in shock.
You surprised?
A [E] little bit.
When he said I was going [C] home, there was like a kick to the face from Chuck Norris.
[G] Surprising.
Surprising.
The biggest shock I think was when Chris went home.
I wasn't [C] expecting that.
I knew he was popular.
I knew people liked him.
But I think that was a classic case of people thinking, he's fine, he's okay, let's vote for someone else.
Chris Daughtry, ladies and gentlemen, based [F#] on your votes.
[Cm] _ _ _
[D#] _ I wasn't [Cm] expecting it.
And that could be taken as me [A#] being overconfident.
[C] But it [D#] wasn't that I was thinking I'm supposed to win [C] the show.
It was more thinking that I killed it the night [A] before.
So I felt [G] like it [Cm] was definitely a surprise. _
_ _ [E] Chris [B] Daughtry was amazing.
He was my [F#] favorite guy [E] on the show.
We just really clicked as friends.
We always got along.
Chris [B] was always [C#m] such a sweetheart. _
[E] _ [Em] I really admired [B] his [A] rockability.
I think Chris has always wanted to be [E] a rockstar.
It was great for him to see him realizing that.
And everybody [E] loved him.
_ [B] _ _ [F#] The one thing that Chris had [E] that you must have in order to [B] succeed
[C#] is this [A] non [B]-tangible thing that you just can't put your finger on it.
[E] What is it?
Is it his singing?
Well, a lot of people can sing.
Is it his smile? _
[B] I have a smile.
[E] But he has this charisma, this persona, where he walks into a room
and [A] you notice [E] his quiet [B] confidence.
And I think [C#m] that once he gets on stage, [F#] it's like, no one [E] can touch me here.
[B] _ _
[A] _ Chris Daughtry is a rockstar through and through.
It's no surprise to me that [B] he's probably been one of the most successful of that top five.
He's got that great raspy rock voice.
[E] He had the right attitude when he performed.
[Bm] He'll be around for a few [E] years yet. _
_ _ _ [C] _ _ _ [G] _
Originally, when I _ [C] auditioned for Idol,
the goal was to be able to support my family
and basically just get [G] more gigs doing what I was doing.
And I never [C] saw myself headlining arenas,
traveling the [C] world, _ [B] and doing what I do now at the magnitude that we're doing.
So it's been a very, very rewarding [F#] experience.
[C] And I wouldn't trade it for the world. _ _
_ _ _ _ [Dm] _ _ _ _
[Em] _ _ _ _ _ [A] _ _ _
