This is actually the first [N] record that I ever had.
It's Clifford Brown.
This record is called The Beginning and the End.
[C#]
[E] There's a solo on here to a song called [C#m] Donna Lee
[G#] that he recorded right before he passed away and died.
[N] That's one of the preeminent recordings I've ever signed
for trumpet literature, which is really cool.
[Gm] I'm Matt [C] Stevens.
I play guitar.
This is Jamiah [F] Williams.
He [F#] plays [E] drums.
The first one I have is The Soothsayer, which is a Wayne [G] Shorter record.
[A] [Gm]
[Em] [A#] This is a record that I had in high school.
[F#m] [A#] I've always really enjoyed Wayne Shorter a lot.
[C] [A] That's it.
Here is me [Em] replacing my CD of this [Gm] on vinyl.
Next.
[C] [Dm] This one is Jack [D#] McDuff, [C#] Sophisticated [Dm] Funk.
[A#] [Cm] I've
[Gm] [Dm] never heard this record, but when I go shopping for [Cm] vinyl,
I look for the cover.
It's all about the cover.
[Dm] They don't make them like this [C] anymore.
They don't make women like this, nor [F] do they make covers like [Cm] this.
So I just had to get [F] this one.
I can't wait to rip it [C] open.
I might not even listen to [G] this.
This is [F] just a wall piece.
[D#] This is a [Am] conversation piece for my apartment.
[G] Jack [C] McDuff, Sophisticated Funk.
The new Badu.
[Gm]
[G] [D#]
I always applaud her for her conviction because she's such a great artist.
[Gm] Really, on a lot [F] of levels, I feel like she
[Cm] could be the last great jazz singer,
[A#] which is kind of disheartening [B] a little bit.
[Gm] But just [G] her sensibilities, her ideas [Gm] about music, how she approaches her [F] music,
[Gm] the notes that she sings, her inflections.
I think she's really [Cm] a [Gm] huge light for us.
Right now, hopefully there'll be someone that'll come and [A#] grab the torch for her,
but I [D#] don't really hear it yet.
So [Gm] she's the one right now, Erykah [F#] Badu.
My name's Bill Fletcher.
We're at Amoeba Music,
and I'm the pianist with Christian Scott [Dm] Quintet.
I'm Chris Fun.
I'm with Christian Scott also.
I'm the bassist.
The first one I [A#] got was Mendelssohn, [G] Frederick Mendelssohn, killing classical [F] composer.
[A#] [F]
I guess the story behind him is in college.
[D] [E] I [Dm] had a classical class.
We went through [G] Bach, Mozart, Beethoven.
And I always like finding rare gems that nobody really talks [Dm] about,
but [N] who has the talent and the skill level as the other famous composers.
[F#] I picked the in crowd, Ramsey Lewis.
[G#m]
[D#] My dad used to always have this spinning in my house [C#] growing up when I hated jazz.
[D] And as I got older, [F#m] I realized what it was.
And there's this bass [A#] player on it that gets [F#m] no shine.
His [F#] name is L.D. Young.
[D] And I love him to death because [F#] I find similarities in him and me
[C#] because I heard he had horrible technique like me, [F#m] and he had a killing sound,
and I [N] just really gravitate to [G] this.
Of course, I got Likey Lee's joint.
[D]
[G] It's called Youth [Em] Novels.
[G] And actually, [D] my girlfriend actually turned me on to this.
[E] [G] [A]

It's a really, really, really [E] cool album.
[G] And I listen to it damn near every day, so way [D] to go, Likey Lee, because [E] you made something dope.

Yeah, the budget just got way bigger.
Christian said it's totally cool [Em] for you to do that now.
[D] This is an Elmore James record [A] that I had on CD.
[D]
My dad [Em] bought me this [D] CD [F#] right when CD players came out.
So, [G] anyways, well, I lost it.

[G#]
It was cool [B] to be in his company and in his presence and to record with him.
And it's [E] also an amazing album.
So, yeah, Somewhere Here on Earth right here.
[C#m] Israel Hewton, Power of One, [F#m] great gospel singer.
[E]
I [F#m]
[E] think, [C#m] personally, [F#m] his music's going to be probably sung 30 years from now.
So, I think he's a major innovator.
[B] [E] His musicians on here are [A] top notch.
And that's why I got [B] this.
And last, [D] I have John Coltrane, Coltrane Sound.
[A#m] [G#]
[F] [Am] The epitome [E] of lovemaking [F#] music.
Central Park West, track [Bm] two.

[E] _ _ _ [G] _ _ [A]
Ever since she gave me this album, I [D] actually haven't been able to stop listening to [Gm] it.
It's a really, really, really [E] cool _ _ album.
[G] And I listen to it damn near every day, so way [D] to go, Likey Lee, because [E] you made something dope. _ _ _
[C#m] The Clash.
_ [A] _ _
I mean, if you don't know about [E] The Clash, you got to get to know [G#m] them.
This one is London Calling. _ _ _ _

This [E] is what we do every night.
[G#m] I wish I could smash [E] my drums like this.
You can, man.
I can?
[Am] Yeah, you can.
Can I do that?
Yeah, the budget just got way bigger.
Christian said it's totally cool [Em] for you to do that now.
_ [D] This is an Elmore James record [A] that I had on CD.
_ _ _ [D] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ My dad [Em] bought me this [D] CD [F#] right when CD players came out. _
So, [G] _ anyways, _ well, I lost it.

It's called [G#m] Planet Earth.
It's a Prince record.
[C#] It [A] came out recently and it was one of the coolest, [B] best experiences of [E] my life.
To be in the studio with Prince telling you, like, [G#m] you know,
I want to hear you whisper on the [A] track and, you know, play like Miles and take your time with your phrases.
_ [G#]
It was cool [B] to be in his company and in his presence and to record with him.
And it's [E] also an amazing album.
So, yeah, Somewhere Here on Earth right here.
_ [C#m] _ Israel Hewton, Power of One, [F#m] great gospel singer.
_ _ [E] _ _ _
I _ [F#m] _ _ _ _ _
[E] think, [C#m] personally, [F#m] _ his music's going to be probably sung 30 years from now.
So, I think he's a major innovator.
[B] _ [E] His musicians on here are [A] top notch.
And that's why I got [B] this.
And last, [D] I have John Coltrane, Coltrane _ Sound.
[A#m] _ _ _ [G#] _ _ _ _
[F] _ _ [Am] _ _ _ The epitome [E] of lovemaking [F#] music.
_ Central Park West, track [Bm] two.
Gotta get [D] it.
Put it on for [G#m] the ladies.
_ [F#] It'll work every [B] time.
Some red wine and number two.
Swan Lake Beast [A] Moms. _ _ _
[E] _ _ [B] _ _ _ _ _ [A] _
Which [N] you can't go wrong with because these guys are actually really [B] awesome.
_ And [Am] so, yeah, so that wraps [A] up my visit in the [B] Muba.
And that's what's in my [A] bag, in my basket.
