Christone "Kingfish" Ingram - A New Generation of Blues (Interview) chords
Start Jamming...
Blues is life.
He's the talk of the blues world.
[E] Blues with an edge.
[C]
[F] [Bb] [D]
[G] Have a
little bit of soul in there.
[F]
[Dm] [C]
[Bb] [F]
[G] And a voice well beyond his years.
[E]
At [Gb] [G] 20 years of age
Christone Kingfish Ingram could be the future of the blues.
[N] It's a part of our
culture and I want to get my message out differently.
You know in my town
everyone raps.
I used to live right next to a blues band [Em] and they used to let me
come over there and [Eb] watch them [C] rehearse and I would go to their house parties [A] and
do joints [G] and stuff.
Kingfish grew up in Clarksdale, Mississippi near the
crossroads.
Whereas [N] the story goes legendary blues man Robert Johnson
allegedly made a deal with the devil.
Nah I ain't do nothing to that man.
[F] Kingfish is
already grabbing the [D] attention of some of the [Am] greats including [Dm] Buddy Guy.
I had
opened a show for him back in 12 in [Eb] Alexandria [Bb] Virginia.
I [N] jammed for him like
some years later in Portland Oregon at the Waterfront Blues Festival.
And
Ingram's life changed when the two met again at the Experience Hendrix tour in
Memphis.
I got a chance to go in and jam with him and Billy Cox and then one day
we get this call that he wants to work with us and produce [E] my album and pay for
it and everything.
[F]
Ingram recently opened 10 dates for Guy who also appears on
Kingfish's debut album.
Well it's great man because we all need mentors [N] and we
know and we all need people to help us and I'm just glad you know one of the
OG's as I like to call them had faith in me and believed in me you know to bring
me and I've learned a lot from him.
And just as Guy is [Gm] mentoring Ingram, Kingfish
mentors young kids at local blues and schools [Dm] programs [G] and wants to help bring
blues to a [F] new generation.
I think one of the best ways we can get [N] children
involved if you just you know kind of kind of add some of that modern flavor
to it like hip-hop or something and then if we pull them in like that then that's
when we can you know actually sit down and tell them you know and tell them
[A] about the real deal.
The debut album Kingfish will be released on May 17th on
Alligator Records.
[Dm] For [A] Blues Rock Review, I'm Pete Francis.
