Weisenborn had a company that made pianos and these kind of guitars.
And this is made out of colorwood.
And it's all one piece.
It's very light.
And this is a 1927, this one.
And very light.
And the thing that made these sound so different was being one piece
and of course the hollow square neck.
But these have almost like a shimmer to them.
This always [A] reminds me of, you [Dm] know, on very hot days
when you [Gb] see that kind of shimmer raising off of a blacktop.
That's what this reminds me of, the sound.
It's so pretty.
And this is a very special instrument [Gm] to me.
I got this, [D] [Ab] there was a couple who had a son, an elderly couple,
and [Eb]
this belonged to their son who had just passed [Db] from AIDS.
And they were selling off his possessions,
and this was one of the last things that was to be sold.
[Eb] And he lived in Hawaii, the son, and had just started taking lessons on it.
So when I got it, all his lesson sheets were still in the case.
And his [E] parents were very disappointed.
They didn't even know really what it sounded like
or [Am]
what it [D] was supposed to, [Ab] what the song sounded like.
So I promised them that I would, if they sold it to me,
because I was up against Japanese collectors
who were willing to pay the big bucks.
I didn't have the [D] big bucks, so I called these people and said,
I promise you if you sell it to me, I will play it.
It will get a really good home.
So when I got [Eb] this, I actually here at Bismol Studio
recorded them three songs playing this,
so they could finally hear what their son's guitar sounded like.
And [Bb] they were very happy about that, and I was [D] very happy to do it.
But these are very special instruments.
They just have such a different sound.
