There there really aren't words to kind of put into play how I feel today.
I told my family all day
I said it feels like my like wedding day for country music to step on this stage and man, you know, I'm from Nashville
So I have so many people here tonight that have supported me from day one and been a part of this journey
And so this is really special.
Thank you guys for being here and welcoming me to the Grand Ole Opry stage for the first time
[Bb] I was uh, if you guys don't mind, I'll tell y'all a story.
I'm gonna try to make it quick
Like they said I wrote my first song after coming to the Grand Ole Opry when I was 7 years old and I
Decided right then and there I was gonna write songs for the rest of my life
And my dream was to play him on this stage.
Well, I was 14 years old
and I wrote I wrote a song when I was 14 about my great-grandparents and
And they they lived in a small town of Carothersville, Missouri their whole lives and they got married when they were 15
And I was lucky enough to get to know them
Through my life and when my great-grandmother passed away.
I was 13 and
I wrote a song about their love story
and I remember
I remember playing that song for my parents when I was 14 right after I had written it
we're down in the living room and I
played this song and I
Finished and both my parents were crying and I remember my mom looked at me and she said first thing she said
So you're gonna play that song at the Grand Ole Opry one day
[G]
[Bb]
so I
thought about this moment a lot and
How much this means to me?
And I knew I could get up here.
I could play my radio single and whatever the label wants to you know, put out next
But I just wanted to make [Gm] this a little more special than that
[Bb] So if you guys don't mind, I'm gonna play a song.
I wrote by myself at 14 years old
My grandparents they loved the Grand Ole Opry.
So, uh, I know they're watching up there
But this song is about Peg and Dewey Coomer and it's called Jesus and me
[F]
[Bb] It was me and grandpa
on the front porch [F] one Christmas Eve
Telling stories [Bb] about his daddy [Gm] and the war a little bit of everything
[Bb] He should have seen his face light up
[Gm] when I asked [Bb] him about
Grandma [Gm] [F] he said her [Eb] daddy
[Bb]
Told us [Gm] we were way too [Bb] young and her mama said that I
[Gm] Wasn't the [F] one oh, but I didn't care [Gm] when I [F] got down
[C] Cuz she loved Jesus
It's a [F] funny [Bb] way [F] life go
Spin [Eb] your whole life [Bb] searching for someone [Gm] you find you [F] just know
[Eb] Cuz it's something [Bb] about the looking [Gm] right that'll tell you
[F] It's meant [Eb] to be
Well, it was easy
[G] Cuz she loved Jesus [Bb] me
[Eb]
[Bb] [Eb] Said I didn't [Bb] have any money [Gm] a little I had I spent on that ring
[Eb] But I knew [Bb] that's together
[Gm] We could [F] make it through anything [Eb] here we [Bb] had nothing
[Gm]
[F] We had everything [Eb] we need
[F] She loved Jesus
[Bb] Hey
[Eb]
[Bb] Way Way
[F] [Eb]
[Bb] Searching for someone [Gm] when you find it you [F] just know
[Eb] Cuz it's something [Bb] about the looking right [Gm] that'll tell you [F] if it's meant to [Eb] be
Cuz it was easy [F] to see she loved Jesus [Bb] Me
He [Gm] said let me tell you something [F] when you search for the one you [Eb] should love
Someone's like [Bb] your mama
Whether [Gm] you're 16 or 62
[F] One day she'll find you
[Eb] It'll be
[C] Good Lord
[F]
[Cm] Funny [G] the way Life goes
You spin your whole life searching for someone [Gm] when you find that you just [D] know
[Bb] Cuz it's something about the looking [Gm] right that'll tell [F] you
[F] She loved Jesus
[Eb] [Bb] Grand [Bb] [Eb] [Bb]
