[G] [D]
Welcome everyone, [F#] we're going to do Copperhead Road and to start out with we're playing along
with a mandolin so the key [D] is D [F#] and you want to kind of play this first [E] part kind of mellow
before [F#] the guitars really kick in.
So what [E] we're doing, this top E, the high E, we're not going to [G#] play that very much.
We're going to concentrate on the [E] fourth, the third and the second strings here.
We're going to hammer into a D by [F#] taking our first finger, hammering into the second [D] fret
and then we're going to use our small finger on the [F#] fourth fret and come up to that third string [D] also.
Then we're going to slide up [G#] and come into the fifth [F#] fret on the third string and [G] the
third fret on the [D] second string.
[Bm] Then we take that down one [F#] to four and [F#m] three and then [D] back to our D.
So what he's doing is referencing a C here, [G] a G.
[D]
[G] [D] So [F#] during the verse [D] he's just doing that.
[G#]
So after he talks about in the verse, the first verse about moonshine, he goes into a break.
[G] The break is a G to a C [D] to a D and [B] I'll show you that at speed here.
[G]
[D] [G]
[D] Back to Copperhead Road.
[F#] I like to play the G with my small finger [G#] here on the first string.
[G]
Then I'm referencing the C by putting my first finger on the second string at the first fret
[D] and then into D.
[G] I think it sounds better [Em] than doing maybe a full [G#] C by putting your first and second
finger on the second [C] string and fourth string.
[G] [C] [E] It's too basic.
[F#] So if you listen to the recording, I think he's just using [G] his first finger.
[D]
[G] [D]
[F#] And then you're back into the little lick where you [G#m] come up and reference the C to G
back to D.
[G] [D] [F#] So it's kind of a mellow part.
You're still playing with the mandolin through the first two verses.
The second verse kind of builds the tension.
You can [G#m] just feel like it's going to break loose any minute with the droning chord in the background.
[D] So you're doing the break.
[G]
[D] Second half of the [G] break.
[G#m] Back to Copperhead Road.
This is where it cuts loose and you're going to do a D and we're going [D] to come in.
[G]
[D] [G]
[D]
So [G] that break follows basically [F#] the chords but it's played with a lot more oomph.
We come in with the [D] D.
[G] And then you're into [G#] the actual [D] chorus where you're doing the D.
[F#] Just a lot more up-tempo and [D] play it with some feeling.
[G] [D]
And then again, [F#] he does that twice.
It's like the break.
You go into the G, C, [G] and D.
[D]
[G] [D]
[F#] So he does that twice also.
And then you're in.
You just kind of hold a D and you're back into [G#m] the actual third verse which is [G] a lot
more up-tempo.
Okay, that's the whole song.
I hope you guys enjoy that.
And it's in the key of G so there's some open [E] string country type licks if you want to play
around with that.
