When we were [G] starting out, I used to go see, before we even really had the full version of County Crows together, I used to go see Dan and Charlie play with Patrick Winningham.
[N] And they used to play that song all the time.
And there's [G] a number of songs that we're going to play tonight because when we were coming up, we were really inspired by a lot of musicians.
[F] And I mean, I don't live here anymore, so I don't know what it's like.
But the music scene when I came up out of [A#] San Francisco was fantastic.
[N] I know a lot of the clubs are gone, a lot of the rehearsal spaces are gone.
I would encourage you to go support your local music because there [E] are bands out there just like County [D#] Crows waiting to be seen [F#] by you guys.
[G#]
One of the reasons everything worked out so well [G] for us is because so many people came to see us in the clubs back then.
[N] And the record companies were excited by that.
So we're going to play some of those songs tonight.
Some of the people that contributed a lot to them were here.
They weren't here last night.
Those are for Kurt B and Jeff Trott.
When we went to make our first record, this song had been a guitar ballad.
But when we were trying to figure out who County Crows really should be, this was one of the songs that helped us to form what we did.
We couldn't really figure out how to play it.
We did it without words for a long time.
We just stood around in a circle [D#] and played it.
I played harmonica, which sort of sings some of the words, even though he didn't know what they were.
We just stood around in a circle playing this on instruments that we hadn't played it on before until we got it to feel like this.
I don't know if you ever saw us before we put out August, but this was a guitar anthem.
And now it sounds like this.
[F#m] [B]
[E] [B] [F#m] [D]
[E] [F#] Go back there and give me the record.
[D#] I don't know if you ever saw us before [E] August, but this was [N] a guitar ballad.
Just forget that ever happened.
I don't know if any of you take a lot of drugs, but this would occasionally happen when you were taking drugs.
This used to be a guitar anthem.
And now it sounds like this.
[F#m]
[C#] [E] [F#m]
[Bm] [D] [A]
[C#m] [E] [B] [F#m]
[C#m] [D] [F#m]
[C#m] In the middle of the night, there's an old man [B] trailing around in the [F#m] gathering.
He's stood [C#m] a few on a one-on-one.
[E] [D] He's dropped a line in [A]
Broadway's [E] Home A-Ha.
[F#m] Somewhere [D] in the middle of [A] America, he writes you a heart of [D] matters.
It's a heart that [A] matters more.
[E] Maybe [F#m] you better turn up to [B] get it.
Get [D]
your money back [A] after the door.
[F#m]
[Bm] So we start the [C#m] day off.
[Em] Rush past the shut [B]-up signs in the courtroom.
Turn [C#m] the world across [D] the wire.
Roll a new knife.
[F#m] The whole world [C#m] is in the arms.
[E] There's an old man standing [B] tall with a bucket [F#m] of rain.
And the street is [C#m] just one walk.
[E]
You know you're [D] gonna walk a little [A] curvy.
[E] [F#m]
[D] Somewhere in the middle of [A] America, he writes [E] you a heart of [D] matters.
It's a heart that [A] matters more.
[E] [F#m] Maybe you better turn up to [B] get it.
Get [D] your money back [A] after the door.
[D] [Bm] [A]
[F#m] [D] [E] [A]
[D] [Bm] [C#m]
[B] [F#m] So we start running [C#m] the battle now.
[E] Rush past the [B] colors all up through the [F#m] sun.
Front [C#m] down.
[D] Follow.
Roll a new knife.
[F#m] The whole world [C#m] is in [E] the arms.
Young man, [B] roll your arrows.
[F#m]
You don't wanna walk a [E] little curvy.
Just wanna [D] walk a little [A] curvy.
[E] Home A-Ha.
[F#m] [D] Somewhere in the middle of [A] America, he [E] writes you a heart of [D]
[E] [F#m] [B] [D]
matters.
Get your money back after the door.
[E] Home A [F#m]-Ha.
Somewhere [D] in the middle of [A] America, [E] he writes you a heart of [D] matters.
It's a heart that matters.
[E] [F#m]
[B] [A] Get your money
[D] back [Bm] after the door.
[A] Stay up all [C#m] night, Sunday [D] morning.
[B]
[Bm] We're [A] back.
