We're going to go back a little ways now and do a song off the album that started us off
on this crazy adventure we've been on the last year and a half or so as a [Gb] band.
[B] This is the title track off my record, came out last year.
And this song is all about, you know, embracing who we are as individuals, embracing our strengths,
those things that make each of us special and unique, and the things that are hard in
life that we overcome, the things that make us stronger.
And when I wrote this song, it was kind of inspired by how when I was growing up, I felt
different from all the other kids in school.
I looked different from the other kids in school.
I lost all my hair when I was three years old to something called alopecia.
And it basically means your body kind of just stops doing hair.
They don't really know why it happens, but I lost all my hair.
And so it took me years and years of just kind of hiding in a way to realize that something
I may have felt ashamed of or embarrassed by was actually one of my secret strengths
and my secret superpower.
So I feel like we all have things like that in our lives that make us who we are, even
if we don't like them at first.
But I think we all have something that makes us a crooked tree.
So in the spirit of this next song, I thought it [N] was about time to have a little costume change.

Oh, [Abm] did you see a [E] crooked tree?
[B] He walked into the mail [Gb] machine.
They [Abm] left him broke [E] and free.
[B] Well, to be a crooked tree.

The perfect tree, they're driven down the mountain to [Gb] the mill.
[Abm] Turning into toothpicks and a [Ebm] twenty dollar bill.
[E] See the mold, people tell the world they need a [B] ceiling.
The crooked trees were left there after all the work was [Abm] done.
Now they go for weeks, never witness [Gb] anyone.
[E] No one left right around [B] to whisper in the wind.
[Abm] Oh, did you see a [E] crooked tree?

So who am I to wish I wasn't just the way I am?

I'm [Abm] a crooked tree.
