Start Jamming...
The biggie as far as Radio 2 are concerned, last good day of the year, which we played the little
boty off that record last year.
Yeah, it was much appreciated.
Not at all any time, thank you.
I'm looking at the album because it's been re-released at the moment, out this week,
Cousteau, so songs by Davey Ray Moore, and Davey's sitting over there.
Do you do all this?
All the songwriting?
Yeah.
Yeah, I do, yeah.
So how does that work with the other four guys?
Do you sort of turn up and say, look, it's gonna work this way, and do they all vote in favour of
I just turn up with a script, and these guys kind of, we all workshop it into a, you know,
the big production, the movie that becomes Cousteau.
I come [B] in with a kind of Busker's
version, which has a certain quality about it, but these guys take it and live it, and
it all happens and sounds like this.
Because you sound like you've,
it sounds like, lyrically and musically, especially the way you sing, Liam,
it sounds like you've all lived a little.
We have, yeah.
I think that's fair.
We'll put it that way.
That's fair [G] to say.
Let's leave it at that.
No, no, no, let's go further into this.
I'm gonna get interested in it.
[N] Can I just correct you one minute, Rich?
What?
It's actually the single that's released this week.
The album was released a few months back.
But I've got a brand spanking new copy of the album.
You have, yeah, but that was actually released a few months ago.
So it's not as brand spanking new as your manager said earlier?
No, it's not.
No, no, he's lying again.
He's lied again.
They only listen to the
first 20 percent, then they run off to the pub anyway.
You've played all sorts of venues.
You
played Smokey Gigs, outdoor festivals.
What would be your ideal venue, apart from the luxuriously
appointed radio studio you're in?
Yeah, well, apart from that, my favourite
venue actually in the world is the Twelve Bar Club.
It's a really small, bulky little club
in Charing Cross.
And I've just had some of the best gigs in my life there.
It's a fantastic little
venue.
But I think the highlight of last year was Glastonbury Festival, for me anyway, definitely.
How does that compare to actually going into the studio and recording it as cleanly as you have to?
They're two completely separate animals, really, you know?
And there's, um,
both good things and bad things about them both.
They're very, they're very separate things,
you know?
You can't really compare them.
I can't, anyway.
So when the, um, when Davey writes the dance hit that's going to be remixed and, um,
a Euro disco hit all over the place, what's going to happen to the band?
Will you change image?
Or
will you, is this how you really will be for the rest [D#] of your lives?
I reckon I'm stuck in my ways now at this stage.
[N] I'm wearing a suit and that's the end of it.
And
I'm not getting any skateboard gear on for anybody.
You [G#m] never know, it could be big.
I don't think I've got one in me, to be honest, Richard.
Yeah.
I'm going to save [A] him the disgrace.
Probably not.
Stay [C#] with the suits.
[N] Um, are you going to play the new single now?
We're actually going to do a very paired-down,
acoustic, lovely version of it.
Okay, this is the single that's out this week,
and it's called Wish You Were Her from Cousteau.
[B]
[C]
[G#m]
[G#] It's [B] not your style to live [C] and let [B] live [C] the less [G#m] that I need
the more that [G] you give
[C#m] on a runaway train over [C] and over again
and [C#m] I'm getting [F#m] used to you I'm [G#] [Am] getting used to you
[A] but [E] I wish you were here I wish [B] you were her like [Em]
[C#m] nobody
[C] else in the world
oh [E] I wish you were here I wish you [B] were her I [E] wish you were here I wish [A] you were her
[E] you [B] always leave but you [C] never [B] go
[C] [E] [G#m]
[C#m]
[C]
oh
[E] I'm [F#m] getting over you I'm [A] getting [Am] over [E] you
but I wish you were here I wish you [B] were her like [C#m] nobody [C] else in the world
oh [E] I wish you were here I wish you were [B] her I [E] wish you were here I wish [A] you were her
[B] [Bm]
[C]
[B] [E] [G#m]
[G] [G#m]
[Em] we [C#m] fell out of the sky fighting [C] the tears in our eyes I'm [F#m] getting over you
[Am] I'm getting over you
but [E] I wish you were here I wish you [B] were her like [C#m]
nobody else [A] [C]
in the world
[E] oh I wish you were here I wish you were [B] her I [E] wish you were here I wish [B] you [A] were her
[B] Cousteau on Late Night Radio [N] 2.
I Wish You Were Her, which is the new single.
See them play it live at the old LA2, which is the new Mean Fiddler, apparently,
tomorrow night in London.
The only band I've seen who have a drum kit on a pram.
It's amazing.
It's just brilliant, Craig.
I think it's fantastic.
Is that a real pram?
It is a real pram.
It's a real drum kit.
Craig and Joan, Robin [C] and Davey and Liam, good to see you guys.
Thanks very much, Richard.
Cousteau, hotly tipped for Greatless and thanks for joining us tonight.
Thanks, man.
