[A] What's going on guitar players?
Fantastic song [G]
for you.
This is Neil [N] Young's Caldor in the Sand.
This comes off his [G#m] 1969 album.
[G] Everybody knows this is nowhere.
Neil plays this song live just [F#]
amazingly cool.
I mean, he riffs on it for about 70 minutes.
[D] Especially with his band Crazy Horse.
Just really has some soaring awesome [F#] solos and jams.
[N] Check it out on YouTube.
In the meantime, let's take a look at the song.
First of all, it starts with an A minor to an F major.
And kind of riffs back and forth.
A minor to F major.
You can do that lots and lots of times.
Especially if you're playing with other folks.
When Neil plays it live, he just does that a lot.
And other guys kind of solo over that.
Or Neil solos over that.
So, A minor to F several times.
And also between verses, he does the same thing.
I'll play maybe twice or four times in that demo.
But when you see A minor to F without the vocals,
you can just go ahead and riff on that for a long, long time.
The strumming pattern.
Let's not worry too much about strumming.
Focus on the chords and let you figure out the rhythm as you go.
But I'll throw a suggested strumming pattern up here on the screen for you to look at.
But again, when you're learning, I always say,
You kind of tap your foot and the rhythm will always come naturally.
The chords, [G] I'll put them here to the left.
They are as follows.
We have an A [Am] minor.
[A#] [F]
[N] We've got a C.
[C]
[F] [Gm] A G.
[C#] We've got an F major [F]
7th.
[E] [G] [Dm] We
[A] have an E [Em] minor.
E is an echo minor.
And an [N] E7.
[E]
[F#m] And one more thing.
[N] When you're playing the A minor,
take your middle finger, the one which is on the second fret, fourth string.
Your middle finger.
Just hammer that on, off and on.
That kind of gives you the trademark riff that you hear in the intro.
[Am] Like, hammer, [F] hammer, F,
[Am] A minor, hammer, hammer.
[F] [Gm] So go ahead [G#m] and throw the [F#m] hammering in on the A minor just to spice it up.
And [F] [N] let's do a live play through.
Again, I'm going to throw the chords up here to my left as I play through at speed.
So let's get to it.
