10 [E] minute demonstration, maybe a little bit longer.
[G] You don't have to be a drummer, it's just a little bit [E] of fun basically.
This is pretty much the busiest area of the [C] show, so if you want to get a good
you'd be like Sardine, so as long as [E] you've got your water with you basically.
[Em] My name's Craig Lundell, I'm Roland's international demonstrator for the V-Drums.
I also play with quite a few different types of lock-outs all over the world,
and I also program and do this sort of [C] thing live.
[Em] I've got some kind of cool toys with me today,
what I've done for the past sort of five days.
Hansonic, Hansonic percussion controller, the new SPD-30,
the only one in the country at the moment, which is just breathtaking what that instrument does.
And I'll finish off with a little set of the kit [Am] in the SPD-S,
show you some of the [G] mad, mad things you can do [Am]
with drums and music in general.
So [G] I'm going to start off, if I may, with the Hansonic.
[C] Now the glue's in the name, play it with your hands.
[G] You instantly will become the coolest member [Am] of your band playing this instrument.
[G] You don't have to really be a drummer, it's [Am] just loads and loads and loads of fun.
So, what [E] we have is many [D] different genres of music.
[Am] We can play with our hands, or we can play with our wrists.
For [N] example, if I start off with the player B,
we play it with a [Dm] rocking motion, so we get the wrist [N] and the middle finger,
backwards and forwards, like a seesaw effect, so you get that.
And then we introduce more [G] technology along, we can do it with your [F] foot,
our left hand starts up the mix.
Over this ten minute [B] demonstration, we're going to kind of punch and bounce
and do the [Am] actual technical aspect of the thing,
so it's going to be [A] a big wow factor for you, basically.
[D] It's just a stroke of [F] thought when you think about technology [Bb] and gadgets,
that's why we're here.
So, basically we [Am] have left hand, so we [N] can play a straight forward groove like that.
[A]
[C] And with a little bit more practice, obviously, put more [A] time in,
we can play some more kind of interesting [Dm] breaks.
[G]
[N] Now what we have here is a D-Beam [G] controller,
and a D-Beam is used on a lot of Roland [E] synths.
What [N] you do is trigger a note, I'll play a note.
So it's great for live DJing, so if you're playing live,
it instantly makes you the coolest member of your band, basically, which is great.
We
[Fm] [C]
[N] have a statue in here, or rhythm control.
With that rhythm control, we can change the tone, or pick,
or we can filter out whatever instrument we're playing at that time.
So for example, if I'm playing snare drum,
[Em] I'll play the last black [N] moment.
[Gm] [D]
[E] [D] I have on the floor here [C] an [A] ME-70 guitar effects [Em] pedal.
So, if I apply [A] modulation, and [G] vibrato, and all forms of depth and harmony,
it's into this mode in my ear, one-two, one-two
[A]
[B] [C] We [E] [B]
[Em] [N]
[E] also have loops, so we can play various different kinds of loops.
Guys, we are going to get proper rammed now.
If you want to come in, please feel free [Bbm] to come in a little bit closer,
and [N] see where you can.
We're not allowed to block the aisles, and it gets mad.
So, I'll go to loops.
You can see, if you can just see, all the pads have lit up in red,
which means there's a loop on one of those pads.
So for example, Indian loop, [Cm] I'm on tabla.
[Db] Or I can play the actual red light itself.
[N]
[C] Or I can play a little Indian restaurant gigs.
Sort of, really.
[N] Then we go on to dance, we can go to scratch.
You can also do that kind of scratching as well.
We can then play [Em] conga, so normal conga.
[Abm] [N] I can mute that conga with my left hand.
[G] [N] Or tune it.
Great [D] bit of fun.
So let's push the boundaries of technology one step further.
Behind me, [N] I was very privileged to go to Japan at Christmas, for Roloden,
and film some new product demonstrations,
of the new products that are coming out for this year.
And I came back with this beauty.
This is the SPD-30.
It's the only one in the country at the moment.
They land in a couple of weeks' time.
It's a phenomenal, phenomenally powerful bit [G] of a kit.
If you're doing the [Gm] introduction to DJ,
[Ab] or if you're just writing [Eb] your own music.
Now, [Dm] what we have is 50 different kits.
Of which we can just play straightforward.
Click if you want to.
[G]
[D] [N]
You can play a straightforward, normal kit.
[F] Or, it acts as a loop station.
So you can [Ebm] take your ideas [N] and loop it round.
The wonderful thing about this is it has a quantising facility.
So, if you play it like [C] a turkey, it's going to correct you.
So for a drummer, [Ab] it's brilliant.
So [N] all your beats, you've got to get slightly off tempo.
It will play and correct you.
So for example, I press standby.
And it's here.
And you can hear the clicking.
I'll set it to 200 mbps.
And that's the click.
All I'm going to do is record a part.
That's where it is.
That's where it starts.
I'm just adding sounds.
I'm going to open [Gm] the [Eb]
[N]
microphone.
And I'll record it.
I'll record the bassline.
What's that?
I can not get stuff in it at any time.
Sorry, my set.
[C] So basically, if you're with a DJ and you're kind of [Cm] bouncing ideas.
My sweet, do me a favour.
[D] Lovely lady, do me a favour.
[N] Hit that for me.
And off you go again.
You can also add effects on the fly as well.
Crazy, crazy effects.
Anybody can play this and it will quantise it.
You can just go to the most random
