Craig Morgan Sings ‘The Father, My Son …’ In Empty Grand Ole Opry chords
Start Jamming...
The [G] Grand Ole Opry kept a streak of over 4,900 straight Saturday night broadcasts alive with
personal [C] emotional [F] performances from Luke Combs and Craig Morgan.
The [D] April 25th performance [F] included pandemic inspired new songs and country vet Morgan
singing The Father, My Son, and The Holy Ghost for a live audience of no one.
I'm Billy Dukes with Taste of Country and Morgan would later admit it was kind of strange
but video shows that unusual circumstances did nothing to diminish a song he admits takes
all of his physical and emotional strength.
The Father, My Son, and The Holy Ghost was written after his son [Eb] Jerry died in the summer
of [C] 2016 and it describes [Bb] a father's struggle to find [G] a new normal.
[C] [F] [C]
[Cm] [Bb] More from Craig's performance in a moment with a hat tip [D] to the Grand Ole Opry and Circle
TV where you can find the full Opry performance every Saturday night.
A link to their YouTube channel is in the corner.
Thumbs up this video and let us know in the comment section how [C] Craig's music has moved you.
I [D] know my boy [G] ain't here but [C] he ain't gone.
In the mornings I wake up give her a kiss head to the kitchen.
[Em] Morgan also debuted a new song called Mask [Am] and Combs' coronavirus quarantine song [D] Six
Feet Away made its Grand Ole Opry debut.
The thoughtful ballad describes [Bb] his quiet struggle [G] during this time of [D] isolation.
It's a feeling you may be [Eb] struggling with as well.
I miss my mom, I miss [Db] my dad, miss the road, I miss my band, giving hugs [Ebm] and shaking hands.
[Em] Luke says he has good days and bad [Bb] days but he's getting by.
[C] Morgan tells Taste of Country he worries about the [Eb] future of the music industry but [C] says
personally [Gb] he's doing alright because he can walk about two miles [Eb] and still not leave his
Nashville area property.
[G] His family is healthy as well [C] but they stayed home as he played the Grand Ole Opry.
Really this wasn't much different from any normal television performance.
What do you have to imagine an audience he says.
That's odd for the Opry.
[G] It was really [Dm] unusual.
It felt uncomfortable.
The whole time we were doing it I just had to appreciate the [D] millions of people that
were watching it and listening to it on the radio.
Find the father, my son, and the Holy Ghost on Morgan's upcoming album God, Family, and
Country due May [G] 22nd.
The singer [Dm] talked extensively about the song [C] and how he still [Am] sees signs from [Bb] Jerry everywhere
he goes during [Eb] an interview with Taste of Country Nights.
[Bbm] He admits he [C] never knows how or [F] if he'll get through the [Bb] song when he performs it live.
Right now talking about doing it, [C] it takes a lot for me to [F] physically maintain my composure
when I even talk about it.
[Gb] So singing it [C] is that much worse.
When I did the Kelly Clarkson show I almost [G] passed out.
[C] My knees were weak, I was shaking, my heart, everything [G] in me because [D] it takes so much
energy to maintain my composure while singing this song that [Dm] is so personal.
[Am] More from Craig's latest interview [C] with TOC coming soon.
I'm Billy Dukes with Taste of Country.
