But a house by the airport and there's a girl looks after me when troubles come my way.
She soothes my mind, long caring hands sharing me [B] alongside all my ghosts.
The wild songs they play still sound so fine.
Hey [D] listen man.
[E]
Still with us we do.
We do.
We've got a Mac call, they're in the [E] seating at the moment [A] and sound up.
[D] [E]
[D] You are free.
I got a phone call from Ginger saying you know we're down at the studio, [E] we know you can write, we need some help with this.
[A] And then, but then [E] it became evident [Em] that Jack and I had a chemistry.
[E] And then we wrote [G] I Feel Free which was a big hit so [E] everyone went okay well that's the team, let's let that, [Em] let it roll.
[C] Down the street there's no one there.
[Bb] The [A] lights on the road my eyes [F] don't see.
Though my brain wants to cry out loud.
[D]
Wants to cry out loud.
As you know Cream were on the road all the time and so there was very little time to work on [Em] those songs [D] yet.
But we [E] managed somehow to do enough you know and we got the big [A] hits with Sunshine and White Room and everything.
And so that kind of established even further the songwriting team of Jack and myself.
In [D] a white room [C] with my [D] [G]
[Fm] black shoe pockets.
[C] [B]
[D] [G] Then Jack had [G] more or less the music for White [D] Room and we [Em] tried a few different ideas of lyrics and [D] none of them worked you know.
And [G] then I thought [D] about this poem that I had and it was an eight page [Bm] poem.
[D] And I thought okay well if I cut that down to one page [G] it might be the right thing for it.

[D]
I didn't live anywhere for [A] a while before I started, while I was beginning to write songs I was a semi-homeless.
[D] Anyway I finally found [C] a white room in a [G] flat.
And so I was in [G] the white room.
I had nothing, there was nothing in [Dm] there except a bed and a chair.
[C] And that's where I stopped, I got [Am] straight.
I stopped drinking and taking drugs and everything.
I got straight and [Fm] beginning to be a songwriter rather than just [D] an itinerant poet.
The song is about that turning point.
You said those dreams [G] were sick for you.
[D] You say it's not.
[G]
[D] [C] That's [Bm] the reason.
[D] Goodbye.
[G]
[D] Such [B] a sad time.
[D] For state.
[E]
[D] [G] Only the beginning.
It's very funny because for [D] many many years because I was so much in awe of Jack as a musician.
[F] [A] [D] Then I would make [B] no attempt to sing [G] any of those songs.
[C] I was like fuck it I'm not good enough.
[D]
[Gm] And then I suddenly thought [F]
okay I wrote those songs as [Dm] well.
And I thought [C] it's kind of about time I started singing some of these [Am] songs.
[D] [G]
[C] [E] [G]
[Dm] [G]
[C] [D] And it's funny [G] because now I'm [D] singing, I'm very happy with how I'm singing.
And I'm 77 for Christ's sake.
[E] [Gm] White Room as I say, I sing it.
I'm quite happy to sing it [F] because I still feel it's relevant.
[Dm] It doesn't [C] belong to any particular time, it's just a song that [Gm] worked.
I think for [F] the public it's interesting still because it's got [Dm] a mystery to it.
It's not an obvious thing.
