we're playing in the key of C, or we start in the key of C and we start with the lick that you just heard
I play this as a four string bar at the fifth fret, top four strings
you could just play the top three strings if you prefer
we're going to pick strings [N] three and two and because we're going to strum later
I'm doing this in the same way that John Fogarty would
playing hybrid picking, pick [Bb] plays the lower note and fingers, I use the middle finger usually
plays the higher note of a pair.
So here we're going to pick three and two
and again, _
[Gm] now add the second string at six [Ab] and the third string at seven
play those two, _ _ [Cm] _
now the bar comes away
pick second and third strings again and slide from six and seven to eight and nine
[Dm] _ _ pick them again, _ pick them [G] again and slide [Bb] back to the bar shape
_ so [C] you'll find you can slide to nothing, slide down to two frets or so
but it drops off to nothing and then you put the bar back [Bb] down
and play three and two again. _

_ _ _ now at bar three of the tab, the underlying chord changes to G [Cm] here
and we're going to change the riff back to the six and seven shape that we just played
play that twice, strings three and two _ _
[Bb] now again and pull off the third string to the fifth fret
[Eb] _ but leave the second string in place
now pick those two again, you should have third string at five, second string at six
_ and then the middle finger comes away back to the bar, [A] three and two again
_ and we'll finish with a little lick that [D] takes us into the verse and the [D] strumming _
[Bb] landing [G] back on C, which is the open third string quickly hammering to two
_ third [F] string open, fourth string two pull off [C] to open
and [Ab] land in a C chord ready [Bb] to go five up, down up, six up, down up
which will be the strum [Cm] pattern
so the count of those last two bars of the intro are _
one, two, [Eb] three and four
[Gm] one, two and three [F] and four [Bb] and one _ _
being bar five in the arrival of the verse
