Hey, what's up you guys?
Marty Schwartz here from GuitarJams.com. Hope you guys are doing
well out there.
I've got a classic, [Bb] classic tune for you and a great beginner song, but
a great song if you're an advanced player too.
But it's good for beginners.
Also, I'm
going to leave links down for my site.
You can try it out for free.
We've got a new,
you know, new site look and everything and I think you'll dig it.
So you can try it out
and the link's down there.
The social media stuff too, I really appreciate it.
I do!
But
let's zoom in and learn this one right now.
Here we go!
Alright, so primarily you need three chords for the whole song.
There's a couple little
tricks and things, but really it just revolves around three chords, three different sections
where it takes those three chords and puts them in a different order, which is a great
songwriting tool at least to understand.
The chords are A major, [A]
G major, and [G] I like
playing, for this song, I like playing G this way.
And that's where your pinky's on the
third fret of the high E, ring finger's on the third fret of the B, second fret, third
fret.
And then you also need a D chord.
[D]
So those three chords, but [G]
what's cool is this
G chord, when [Gm] you move over to the D chord, you keep your [G] pinky down from the G.
[D]
You know,
so there's little D tricks that are great for beginners.
In fact, I only knew the D
chord for about a year and I could do the tricks with it.
[Gm] And [D]
[E]
that's all I knew.
[A] But
anyway, I'm going to dig deeper into that for you right now.
So we're going to start
with the A chord.
[G]
[D] [E]
So I'm starting with two down strums on that A chord.
[A] Then we're going
to do the same thing on G.
[G] And
[E] I'm just resting my hand there and you get a little bit of
a [A] percussion thing.
[G]
[Eb] Okay, then, like I said, we're going to keep those two down from the
G chord and then get, you know, that middle finger on the second fret behind it on the
I E, second fret on the G behind it.
And you're going to [G] go one strum [D] on that, then pinky
comes off, then middle finger comes off, then comes back down.
So it looks like
[A] [G]
[D]
[G] [A]
[G] [D] the
[A] [E] second
time [D] instead of, it goes, [A]
[D] so, A [A] chord.
And then you're going to go down, down, down,
[Em] so it alternates.
And that's also what happens with the verse.
So it's the intro and the
verse.
[A] [G]
[D] Now,
[A] [G]
[D]
[A] [N]
you saw I was doing a little bit of extra strumming there.
[G]
[F] That's [C] the pulse
of the song.
It can be varied.
You can do all kinds of things with it, but we've got
down, down, [G] down, up, down, down, down, down, up, down, down, down, down, down, down, down,
down, down, up, [A] down, [G] up.
[D]
[A] [G]
[D] [A]
[G]
[D]
[A] [G]
[D] [A]
[E] So it's using that for the verse and then finally, before it
goes to the next section, it does a little thing.
So [A] you've got the verse, A, [G] G,
[D] D,
[A] A,
[G] G, then finally, [D] [G] [A]
so it does a build on A and right before [D] that it's, [G] [A] which is the [D] same
thing as D, [G] G, [A] A, [C] but instead of hitting that note in the G [D] chord
[G] before [A]
the next section,
the bass player is just playing that note.
So we just avoid that.
We [D] can go,
[G] [D] that's why
I mean it's basically three chords, but you kind of cheat on this one a little bit.
We
just want to go D, [G] second fret on the [D] A string, [G]
[A] and then A chord.
So
[Bb] [G]
[D] the [G]
[A]
next section, [G] like
I was saying before, it's the same three chords in a different order.
This time now
it's G, [D] D, [G] that same strumming pattern, down, down, up, G,
[D] D, [G] G, [A] A, [G]
G, [D] [G]
[A] A.
[G]
[D] [G]
[A]
[G] [D]
[G] [A]
Okay, rocking
on A again, the final section.
[G] [D]
[G] [A]
[G]
[D] [G]
[A] It's funny, it's the same as, [D]
[G] [A]
[G] [D]
[G] [A] maybe REO [Eb] Speedwagon or
something?
Who was that?
You can tell me in the comments, but it's the same thing here
on [D] this song, the final section.
D, [G] G, [A]
A, D,
[D] G, [G] A, G, [A] A, A,
[D] [G]
[A] A, A, A, A, A, A, [G]
[D] A, A,
those are [G] all the sections of the [A] song, [G] and you know [A] it is.
[G] [D]
Alright,
[A] [G] [D]
[A]
[Bb] another song, check
it off the list, I've got the links below, actually right down there.
