That's the first phrase.

[Em] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [E] _ _ _ _ _
[A] _ [Em] _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ What we do is we take our second finger and we pull up on the third string, [B] second fret,
_ and then we play the two open [Em] string.
_ _ _ _ That's the first phrase.
And the second phrase _ _ is we take our third finger on the second string, third fret, _ _ _ _ _ _ we
pull up and we play the two open strings backwards.
_ _ So these two phrases are, _ _ and then the [Bb] second phrase is, [Em] _ _
_ _ _ and then the third phrase is, _ _ _ we're
doing the same thing on the next string.
We're just pulling up on the third fret.
_ _ _ _ _ [D] And then we play the _ _ _ second phrase [Em] again.
_ _ _ So I'm going to review these first four [Bb] phrases.
[E] _ _
_ _ _ [Bm] _ _ [Em] _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ [Bb] _ _
[E] _ _ And if you break them apart like that and realize you're just doing the open strings like this.
First you're going, _ and then you're going, _ and then you're going, _ and you're going.
_ _ Again it's kind of an easy way to visualize it.
So here we [A] go.
_ _ Here we go.
[E] _
_ _ [Bm] _ _ [Em] _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
The next phrase [D] is, _ _ [Em] _ _
and that's your third finger on the [D] third fret, second string.
_ _ And then second finger on the second fret, third string.
[B] And you play the open B note again.
So this whole series.
_ _ [Em] _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [D] _ _ [B] _ _
And then we start our walk down.
This is the home stretch.
It's easy.
And we pull up.
_ [A] _ [Em] _
And _ [B] _ [Bb] _ [A] _ [G] _ [E] _ _
_ you might have done that before or something close to it.
So we pull up on the second string.
[A] _ _
_ [G] Pull off, which means we're pulling the string off and sounding the note with our finger. _
We do it on the next string, on the fourth string, [E] second fret.
[Gm] _
_ [Em] Right?
So these two in a row. _ _
[D] _ _ And then we walk down chromatically on the fifth string from the second [B] fret.
[Bb] _ _ [A] _ _
_ And then finally [E] we finish out with the third string pulling down from the G note on the third fret.
_ _ _ And so [Gb] the idea is to connect all this in a smooth way.
I'm going to do it at medium speed.
_ [Em] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ [D] _ _
_ _ [G] _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [E] _ _ _ _ _
And it's designed to be an even phrase so it ends on [Em] a downbeat.
I'll do it fast. _ _ _
_ _ [Bm] _ _ [G] _ _ _ _
[E] _ _ _ _ I'll do it really slow and then we'll move on. _ _ _ _ _
[Bm] _ _ [Em] _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ [D] _ _ [B] _
_ _ _ [G] _ _ [E] _ [D] _ _
[B] _ _ [Bb] _ [A] _ [G] _ [E] _ _ _
_ _ _ _ So [Gm] the next thing I do is you go all the way up the neck and you do this really cool thing.
All you got to do is take your third finger _ on the fifteenth fret across the top two strings. _
And you want to strike with your pick. _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
[Em] So it's down, you're muting.
Well, you're not muting, but you're choking the strings _ when you do a downstroke.
And you want to aim for the top two strings only.
You go _
[Gm] choke, sound, choke, sound, choke.
You do it four times.
You go.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ So it's. _
_ _ _ _ [E] _ _ And it's [C] kind of like, you know, you figure we're in 6-8 and [G] it's kind of. _ _ _
_ _ [E] _ _ _ _ _ _
[G] _ _ _ _ _ _ [Dbm] _ _
_ _ _ [G] _ _ _ _ _
So rhythmically that's what you want to hear.
So _ _ _ I'll do the two phrases [Em] together.
_ _ _ _ _ [Bm] _
_ [G] _ _ _ _ [E] _ _ _
_ _ _ [Em] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ And then you repeat that whole thing.
So it gives you.
What I do is I walk down _ _ [E] _ and I give myself a lot of time to bring my hand up here.
I'm kind of counting to four and then I go. _ _ _ _ _ _
And that's that kind of Hendrixy. _ _
That's where it comes from.
_ So I'll play both of these in a row just like I did on the [Em] demo.
_ _ Then _ _ _ _
_ _ [E] _ _ _ _ _ _
[Em] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [E] _ _ _ _ _ _
[G] _ _ _ _ _ _ [E] _
the rhythm part goes to the five chord and that's pretty easy to _ do.
I just take my second finger _ and I'm doing these top two open strings, but I slide up
from fret [Em] two to fret four _ _ _ _ _ _ three _ _ times. _
_ _ And then slide down. _
[A] _ _ _ _ _ _ [B] _ _
So [E] you don't have to slide up three times.
You can just slide up [Em] once. _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ Slide down.
_ [A] _ _ _ _ [Em] _ _ [E] _
_ _ _ And all the while I'm pounding the top three strings and then the top four strings. _ _ _ _ _
[Em] _ [A] _ _ _ _ _ [E] _ _
_ _ _ Ending the [A] phrase [Em] with [E] _ _ _ _ _ second _ _ _ _ fret, [A] third string.
[G] _ _ [E] And then the open G and landing on the E anchor on the second fret. _ _ _ _
_ [A] _ _ _ _ _ [E] _ _
_ And finally we finish out by going all the way back up here.
It's the third finger on the 16th fret and the second finger on the 15th fret.
_ Strings three and two.
_ And I pound with my right hand _ down [G] strokes. _ _ _ _ _ _
And then [A] I drop down with my index finger on the same two strings.
_ _ _ [Bm] _ _ _
[A] _ _ _ And [G] drop it down again.
_ _ Strike it once.
Play this phrase.
_ _ _ [E] _ _ _
_ And all that is is third finger, fourth string, 14th fret.
[D] _ _ Pull off.
[Em] _ _ _ Same thing on the fifth string.
_ Come back and [G] re-strike that two note cluster right there.
So the last phrase [Bm] is.
_ _ [A] _ _ _
[G] _ _ _ [E] _ _ [G] _ _ _
_ [E] _ _ _ _ _ [G] _ _
[A] _ _ _ [G] _ _ _ _ [Em] _
_ So let me do these last two at speed.
_ _ _ _ I think I'm not going to slide up three times. _ _ _ _ _
[A] _ _ _ _ [Em] _ _ _ [G] _
_ [A] _ _ [Em] _ _ _ _ _
_ [Eb] _ [Bm] _ _ _ _ _ _
And we end with our classic _ E9 chord.
_ _ [Bb] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ [N] _ _ _
