Crystal Gayle - Country music career chords

Ladies and gentlemen, Crystal Gale.
Country [B] music was in prime time [Bb] in the 70s.
[F] Conway and Loretta were just [G] fantastic on [A] stage together.
They had changed the music to where it would not sound [E] whiny and twangy.
Where middle America was.
It's just a [A] time that I'm so happy to be a part of that history.
There were some great songs that still stand by today's [E] standards
and I don't [D] think that period today is looked on as [A] positively as it should be
for what it did for country music.
Expanding.
[Ab]
You've been talking in [Bbm] your sleep
Sleep fighting [Cm] your dreams
[Eb] They were leaders of a new generation.
Their [Ab] music soared from country roots,
but when Barbara and Crystal stepped into the [Bbm] spotlight,
their kind of country left its mark.
Country's definitely my [Cm] roots and a love,
but you know, I love singing anything.
This is Crystal Gale, my baby sister.
[Bb] In the early 70s, Crystal Gale was country music's favorite little sister.
Cold [Cm] and clean
[Ab] Before the decade was over.
The winner is Crystal Gale.
[Bm]
She was simply one of country's favorite stars.
As well as having this gorgeous long hair,
she had a beautiful voice.
[Dm] Just an extraordinary, beautiful voice.
I'm a big fan of Loretta's, but they're totally different people
and the worst thing that could have happened would have been for somebody to try to
make Crystal into [D] a little Loretta, which she just wasn't.
[F]
It's been a long [Bb] time since you went away
[F] I stop to think of you [Bb] most every day
[F] Recognizing her [G] sister's unique talents,
Loretta Lynn [Bb] brought her into the business,
suggested the stage [F] name Crystal,
then encouraged her [C] to go it alone.
She told me [F] that I should not sing her songs anymore
[Bb] when I started recording.
[F] She didn't want me to [E] sound anything like her
[D] because she knew that I would [Bb] not make it in this [F] business
trying to be another [Bb] Loretta Lynn.
And I think that's one of the main reasons I chose
a [C] little bit more M.O.R.,
the [F] easy listening style of country.
And [Bb] really she pushed me in that direction.
Teaming up with [F] producer Alan Reynolds,
Crystal found [Ab] a sound that [Bb] landed her on top of the country and [F] pop chart.
We recorded songs we [Gm] loved and we thought were very good.
It [F] wasn't going into the studio and saying,
this song's going to be [Gb] country, this song's going to be pop.
In 1976, Crystal released her first number [Bbm] one single.
[Db]
I'll [Eb] get over you.
But I'll get over you only set the [Db] stage
for what would happen the [Gb] next year.
[Ebm] Don't know why [F] I'll [Bb] come over you.
[Ebm] With Don't It [Gb] Make My Brown Eyes Blue.
[C] [Ebm] [B]
Don't it make [Bbm] my brown eyes [B] blue.
[Ab] And they were getting ready [Gb] to ship that song [Eb] to [Ebm] California
for [Ab] some other girl singer, I won't [Db] mention names.
[Gb] And Alan [Eb] heard it and said, you're not sending [F] that song anywhere.
I said, [Bb] I got to have [C] that song.
And when I played it for Crystal, it was exactly the identical response.
She loved it.
[B] Don't it make [Dbm] my brown [Gb] eyes blue.
[Ab] My Brown Eyes Blue [Db] was the thing that every artist longs for.
That song that gets married with your persona and your voice
and everything just comes together.
Number one on the country charts, the song crossed over to [Abm] the pop charts.
The single became certified gold.
And [Bbm] the album, the [Cm] first by a female country artist to go platinum.
And then, you know, I'm winning a Grammy, I'm winning [F] all these awards,
and I'm getting to meet all these famous people.
She was named the [Ab] Country Music Association's Female Vocalist of the Year
in [Gb] 1977 and 1978.
I won last year [N] and that was great.
And that was enough for me, but this is super.
